Bell Canada announced this week that they are laying off 4800 people, selling 45 radio stations and re-working the number of news broadcasts in every Canadian market, except Toronto. All because the news division lost $40 million dollars. There is no profit to be made in news. Nor should there be. News is not a commodity. It is information and is not something to be monetized. Yes, we have more information at our finger tips than ever before but often at the cost of quality. The small town papers that employed me out of journalism school a fewer and far between. Communities that had local papers twenty years ago, don’t anymore. Journalism programs at universities and colleges are having problems getting students because it is not a stable career. Why? Because big news companies purchased smaller news companies and then tried to make the smaller news companies run like their bigger news companies. And guess what? They small markets aren’t the same as the big ones and thus can’t be run the same. It hurts my heart that the industry I chose to enter has evolved this way. It angers me that a spreadsheet in some accountant’s computer will affect the way millions of Canadians get their news going forward. Bell, as a company, is obviously prioritizing their bottom line over the broadcast of news, as is their right, but it comes at the expense of so much. My bottom line, news isn’t meant to be profitable. What are your thoughts?

PERSONAL THOUGHTS:⁉️What does it mean to have diversified skills and interests in today’s job market❓ I have graduated with legal expertise ⚖️ I became well known for my transformative work in South Asian football ⚽️ But I am currently serving as an Int. Diplomat 👩🏻💼 Previously, I have worked 10 years in the field of youth empowerment, public policy, legal practice, research/analysis and prior to that I had a thriving portfolio as a TV journalist. If there is one thing I can definitively say is that all my experiences have given me invaluable learning that I would never otherwise have if I chose just one career path/expertise to build upon. The transferrable skills that I earned throught navigating different positions gave me a competitive edge that has immensely helped me to stand out from the crowd. Yes, having a niche is important but having diversified skillset made me more adaptive, resilient and efficient as I am considered to be dependable when it comes to delivering tasks outside my defined role. The beginning of the "ber" months of the year. Last quarter is here before reviewing this years resolution against the actual happening. In the unit of Life 101, there is a phrase that advises one to try everything available as you can only know your areas of expertise if you try. Well, a couple of months ago as I was still job hunting in the beautiful streets of the city, I came across an open call for presenter role. It seemed enticing, and since I used to perform solo verses in my childhood I decided to give it a shot. The morning was proud of me as I dressed and wore my biggest smile for the day. I got to the studios two hours early, "The early bird catches the worm." Did I catch it this time round? I went in with my Bachelor's degree in Agribusiness Management amid journalism professionals. The interview went on smoothly and by this time I could see myself checking in and out for that amazing event. It was a very beautiful experience for me. It boosted my confidence, cheiii. The director was quite the person, not afraid of serving your plate with roasting. I learned quite a lot this day. 📌 Show up and give your best. I was at peace knowing I gave my all. ✂ Keep trying and the least you can do is give up. Keep the hope alive. 📌 Take feedback positively. This is how you grow. ✂ Interact and network. It is purely worth the time. At the end of the day, we were given an actual appointment to present ourselves. Second chances. Reflecting on a Year of National Service😊😊😊 As I wrap up a year of national service, I find myself filled with a myriad of emotions and reflections. The past 12 months have been a journey of growth, challenges, and unforgettable experiences.From the very first day, this felt like stepping into the unknown. Yet, with each passing day, I discovered the true meaning of service – not just to a nation, but to the people within it, where every moment became a building block for personal and collective progress. There's a unique strength in knowing that you're part of something larger than yourself, a force working towards a common goal for the betterment of society.The challenges were aplenty, but they became opportunities for resilience and adaptability. From adapting to new environments to overcoming unforeseen obstacles, each hurdle taught me the importance of perseverance. As I reflect on the past year, it's clear that the skills acquired both practical and interpersonal will undoubtedly shape my future endeavors. As this chapter comes to a close, I am filled with gratitude for the experiences, the lessons, and the people who made this year unforgettable. So here's to the end of a year that was more than just service, it was a year of discovery, resilience, and making a difference. As I step forward into the next phase of life, I carry with me the invaluable lessons learned during this time of national service.

Life lessons from the universe As a job seeker in a tough market, I have been humbled by the genuine kindness, connection and human spirit I have received from friends, colleagues and inspirational leaders in my network. This journey has taught me some valuable lessons: 1) The power of kindness - small acts of kindness are like fairy dust that when sprinkled, can change the direction of your day! Positivity is infectious and sometimes the smallest things, can make the biggest impact. 2) The strength of connections - building and maintaining relationships is crucial, for the job search but also for life! Human connection is more valuable than ever. This journey mirrors the investment I make in my physical and mental well-being, akin to seeking guidance from a personal trainer or therapist, or being mindful of the food I consume. I'm eagerly anticipating this voyage of self-exploration alongside Lisa Nunn, with the aim of aligning myself with a role where I feel like a perfect fit—a square peg in a square hole. I yearn to leverage my unique neurodiverse perspective to its fullest, understanding how to channel my strengths and passions into meaningful contributions within an organization that values and embraces them. This journey isn't just about finding a job; it's about discovering my true potential and finding fulfillment in my professional endeavours.

Makes you kind of wonder if we are on the right path or if we just missed the signs. I have a hearing disability and so I have an Ai note taker that attends my meetings. At the end of each I’m presented with a summary, take aways, task list and transcript. With each Ai summary I compare it to all the others. It helps give me an unbiased summary, opinion if you will of what happen in the meeting and the direction in which we are growing. Is this the right thing to do ? Am I missing the signs ?
