It’s a well-known fact that often the voices of children, especially young children are not present or represented when professionals make decisions about their wellbeing or protection. Today is part two of the ‘Understanding adverse childhood experiences and supporting healthy attachment between parents and their children’ training I’m delivering for the Family Assessment Centre, Future Beginnings. We are using this incredible resource ‘Capturing the lived experience of pre-verbal children’ published by the City of York Safeguarding Children Partnership to provoke conversations and consider the importance of the child’s voice in the process of assessment and how being PRESENT can truly represent the child. Perspective of the baby / toddler. Relationships, reciprocity and responsiveness. Environment. Stimulation. Empathy and early attachment. Needs and nurture. Time to value and feel valued. Implementing clear expectations and behavioral guidelines is more than checking the boxes on your enrollment or procedures to-do list. It establishes a foundation for a supportive community. Detailing support strategies in family handbooks is critical, as it helps to set the stage for children's success and ensures families feel informed and involved. Continuous dialogue between child care providers and families helps to uncover insights into a child's behavior, guiding us toward tailored interventions that support rather than exclude. Remember, open communication through email, text, a phone call, or an in-person meeting is the most important tool for ensuring success among our youngest learners. Don't be afraid to talk with families or providers when you see something worth discussing, but approach the subject with empathy and genuine care for their child. #inclusionmatters #earlychildhoodeducation #mnchildcare #earlychildhoodeducators #parentsupport

To support fathers during this transitional phase, the Single Parent Action Network offers invaluable guidance on introducing new partners to their children. This resource emphasizes the critical role fathers play as role models, highlighting the importance of quality time and advocating for a pressure-free environment as children adjust to new family members. Sharing these insights with fathers can equip them with the tools needed to foster healthy relationships and open lines of communication within their evolving families.
