It's inevitable, everyone makes executive hiring mistakes. Here's how our leading PE clients make less of them. 1. They have a clear understanding of their culture & governance model (and how to hire against it) 2. They are open-minded on salary, location, domain experience to attract the best PERSON that matches their governance model (rather than the best profile) 3. They repeat points 1 & 2 in a systematic fashion across every port co and every search People are typically hired on skill set and fired for behavior. The best PE firms are actively working to reverse that trend. #privateequity #executiverecruiting
How do those clients hire for fit with their culture and governance model while enabling diversity of thought and perspective?
You need to share this with the ones who haven’t figured it out yet….there are a lot of them in the PE space which is why they have such a bad reputation.
Joe Gravino 100%. Behavior and personality traits are much harder to evolve than skill set. A candidate should be self-aware of personality weaknesses and vulnerable enough to share how they continue to improve.

4moThis is very true. Execution eats strategy for breakfast. Culture eats execution. You need to be a personality fit for an organization - the board, the C-Suite, and the team. I've seen many issues where brilliant leaders are a poor match for a company. That doesn't mean that a person can't be a change agent. It means that you need to look at the right kind of change agent - and especially have aligned vision on leadership style with the board.
