What an amazing group of people to be on stage with! 🤩 On Tuesday May 21st, it was time again for the highlight of the year in terms of DE&I initiatives in the Nordics. Jobbfestivalen - Tema Mångfald & Inkludering, The Job Festival, took place in Kungsträdgården, Stockholm. Jobbfestivalen is Sweden's largest job fair, with a clear focus on diversity and inclusion. It is also a job-matching initiative, with the goal of establishing connections between organizations who are conscious about the ethical aspects of their talent acquisition, and job seekers who, for various reasons, have struggled to find their right place on the job market. Thanks to the efforts of Mats Wernheim and his team, more than 20,000 people have attended the two previous Jobbfestivalen fairs in Stockholm, and over 1,500 people have secured jobs or education placements as a result of it. This year, I had the pleasure of joining a panel on the topic of evidence-based recruitment, ethics, and AI, alongside industry leaders Emira Blomberg from Refapp, Fredrik Törn from Hubert, and Alex Tidgård from Grooo. The panel was brilliantly moderated Malin Freiman Moezzi. And of course, Fairsight was represented among the exhibitors. Thanks Mats Englund for spreading the word, and staying on top of it! If you are serious about DE&I, consider paying Stockholm a visit for next year’s Jobbfestivalen fair. And don’t be surprised if Mats brings this initiative to Oslo, Copenhagen, and Helsinki too in the course of the next few years. Yesterday I attended the A-Grid Job Fair and Ecosystem Expo hosted by Aalto Startup Center, and I would have never imagined to meet so many diverse, talented and unique individuals in just 4 hours. From finance to AI, software development, aviation, physics, medicine, communications, and even wellness coaching — I engaged in quick chats with people from various backgrounds, and noticed 1 thing they had in common. A GOAL and an unwavering COMMITMENT to achieving it. This got me thinking — what is this power that empowers people to try countless times before succeeding? My personal theory finds an unexpected answer in the power of delusion 😄Seriously, imagine a person believing in their idea so unconditionally, that they are ready to jump in with both feet to finally make something 💫 cool 💫 happen? The secret I found in the phrase Leigh Ewin told me yesterday: "You have to be hungry for this" (Stay hungry, stay foolish right?) 🍏👓 Of course, being hungry for your dream is not enough. The mark of a truly great entrepreneur is also in their relentless thrust to improve, adapt, and master any skill necessary. Let's take a real-life example - me 🙌🏼 Recently I have earned a BA in International Relations, Public Communications, and Translation. Alongside, I had some experience in hospitality, kitchen work, administrative assistance, tourism consulting, analytical writing, HR management, and even web-design for a local law firm and a fashion studio! Now I landed a job in Software QA, which is…🥁… a whole new thing to me again. And you know what? I could not be more grateful for the HANDS-ON EXPERIENCE they've provided. As Steve Jobs once said, "The only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven't found it yet, keep looking. Don't settle." And as I always say: keep your energy on what you aspire to become!

🌟 Reflecting on My Experience at Talent Days in Warsaw 🌟 Today, I had the unique opportunity to attend the Talent Days event in Warsaw, a job fair aimed at bridging the gap between job seekers and potential employers. 🤝 I must commend the event’s venue, PGE Narodowy, for its wheelchair accessibility, providing elevators and ample space to navigate. 👏 However, my experience was a mixed bag. The event seemed to cater more to the general population, with little consideration for individuals with disabilities. It felt like a recruitment fast-food service – you get served quickly but might not get everything you wished for. 😅 Despite the accessibility of the venue, there were issues with the paper bracelet and barcode system, which initially failed to load my CV. A trip back to the check-in desk thankfully resolved the issue... I want to give a shoutout to the teams at Standard Chartered Bank & Henry Meds stands for their welcoming and helpful attitudes. They truly stood out in a sea of stands where the common approach was, “What do you want?” I believe a more in-depth exploration and understanding of current job offers would significantly enhance the engagement and value for participants. 🎉 On a disappointing note, I had had a prearranged meeting with Point72 ensuring I was well in advance, only to find an empty space and no representative to engage with. This lack of professionalism left a sour taste. 😞 The Talent Match feature, despite providing over 7 matches, resulted in conversations that barely scratched the surface, focusing on how and what to apply, rather than facilitating meaningful connections. 🔄 The event felt chaotic at times, with participants seemingly more interested in collecting souvenirs than engaging in genuine conversations. 👏 Many thanks to Kelly Hart for calling out what she’s seeing at Temple University these days! 👏 She added this comment in response to my post last week headed “EXECUTION Eats Strategy for Breakfast”, and it speaks to an attention-grabbing trend I also surfaced in reading through the responses to open-ended text questions in my most recent student research project. Here’s a representative sample: ➡ “Students can tell if you don’t want to be there.” ➡ “Their attitudes showed they didn’t want to be there.” ➡ “The recruiters looked bothered to be at the career fair.” ➡ “Did not seem interested in being there.” ➡ “Felt like they were told to be there which is the only reason they were there.” ➡ “It felt like they were forced to be there and weren’t happy.” ➡ “The representatives seemed like they couldn’t care less about being there and didn’t care about me or my interest in the company.” The important takeaway here is that these are just a sampling of dozens upon dozens of similar UNAIDED responses I've read in the qualitative commentary: nowhere in the survey had I asked about representatives’ attitudes and their impact. 👉 Execution does indeed matter - and students take note of such subtleties, because they speak loud and clear as signals of authenticity [or lack of same]. With employers currently minimizing their on-campus presence, and many using virtual engagement following an in-person career fair, this is worth noting as a concerning trend in damaging campus brand, as Kelly reports. 👈

These events are the Smeal Branding Events (Gab & Grabs) and will take place in the Smeal Business Building Atrium. Below are the details related to these events.    What: A NEW event that gives employers premium space to connect (informally) with Smeal undergraduates and graduates. The event allows representatives to share company information with our students and provide our students with job opportunities your companies still have available.
