Namibia as a country is set to develop its country's oil and gas sector to meet ongoing energy demands and eradicate energy poverty by forming strategic partnerships with companies and investors through NAMCOR NAMIBIA Businesses like Moneda work with SMEs in executing the bid process, providing financial support and training Namibia is a perfect African case study - an abundance of natural resources across board and the potential to be a force in the energy industry but with a mountain of challenges to climb to achieve this potential. Backed by a period of intense research in the country, our CEO Ejike Egbuagu explains the challenges - access to funding, lack of technical execution capacity and a lack of track-record to win contracts. The convening is aimed at reflecting on what collectively needs to be prioritized to ensure that just energy transition can be a reality, especially in #developingcountries and marginalised communities/groups. I attended the Namibia Oil and Gas Conference at Mercure Hotel, Windhoek, Namibia, earlier in August and here is my take on how oil-producing African countries can drive inclusive economic development. 📍Local Content Laws: by enforcing strict regulations ensuring a percentage of the workforce and suppliers are local. Nigeria's Local Content Act mandates 70% local workforce. 📍Revenue Transparency: Implement transparent financial management to reduce corruption. Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI) compliance in Ghana led to increased public trust. 📍Sovereign Wealth Fund: Plan for future generations. Invest oil revenue in a sovereign wealth fund. Norway's sovereign wealth fund is worth over $1 trillion. 📍Infrastructure Development: Allocate oil revenue for infrastructure. In 2002 and 2006 Angola invested between $5 billion in infrastructure 📍Educational Investment: Build educational programs focused on tech and vocational skills. Algeria allocates 20% of its budget to education. 📍Think Green: Invest to transition to green, invest in energy projects to diversify. Morocco aims for 42% renewable energy by 2030. 📍Public-Private Partnerships: Leverage PPPs to mitigate risks and enhance efficiency. Uganda's oil sector attracted $3.1 billion through PPPs. 📍Regional Collaboration: Collaborate with neighbouring countries for regional stability and market access. The East African Crude Oil Pipeline project involves Tanzania and Uganda. 📍Technology Transfer: Ensure tech transfer clauses in contracts with international firms. 40% of local content requirements in Angola led to tech spillovers. 📍Social Programs: Direct a percentage of oil revenue to healthcare and social services.
