“I encountered different expectations and pressures simply because of being a woman in a predominantly male field. This often resulted in having to work even harder to prove my competence and technical skills.” Marcela Ferreira Thedim, a contracts manager based in Brazil, has around 25 years experience in the oil and gas sector. She tells us about her career to date in her blog as part of our #INWED series. Read her blog – https://lnkd.in/e5wRZevU #EnhancedByEngineering

Per Texas O&G Association - Upstream Texas Oil and Natural Gas Employment Sees Continued Growth June 2023. Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) shows that upstream oil and natural gas employment in the state continued to grow in June, with industry adding an additional 2,500 jobs. Last month, oil and natural gas employment rose above 200,000 for the first time in over three years. The 6,900 job surge originally reported for last month has now been moderated slightly to 6,400. “The continued, positive job growth is a healthy reminder of the role of oil and natural gas in providing the energy that powers modern life,” said Todd Staples, President of the Texas Oil & Gas Association. “We should exercise caution as the global demand picture and domestic monetary policy continues to introduce uncertainty which has led to a continual decline in the rig count. It is important that domestic policy encourages infrastructure build out and promotes local production so that Texas can continue to meet not only our needs, but help provide energy stability for countries across the globe.” https://lnkd.in/dCVDs-FV If you want to stay up-to-date with us, follow our Page.

UK Oil and Gas job losses - where was the hand-wringing in the 2010s? Many of us have worked in the oil and gas industry for decades and witnessed jobs being decimated by the oil and gas operators. I recall working for an operator in the mid 1980s when half the staff were dismissed overnight. As you can be seen from the attached data, UK Oil and Gas lost 180,000 jobs in a five year period from 2013 to 2018. That is a much faster rate than the current predicted job losses to 2050. Today the Oil and Gas Operators and vested interest organisations are playing the jobs card to support the UK case for more exploration licenses. Based upon my previous experiences that seems disingenuous.

Although I have only one year of working in the oil and gas field as my first experience as an employed man, I have noticed that passion is an essential key for all types of labour. That passion will be the motive, the payment🫣🫣, the knowledge, the habits, the skills, the ethics, and the experiences over time. Simply, that up-growing passion will enhance the individual's abilities and mastery of the field to another level.
