Here's why Seth Borko chose this chart as his #SkiftStaffPick "The U.S. online travel landscape looks significantly different than it did before the pandemic. Booking Holdings (NASDAQ: BKNG) has tried to muscle into Expedia Group's American territory. Interestingly it has tried to do this via Dutch-Booking.com rather than the U.S. founded Priceline. And as the big two duke it out for the top spot they still need to keep their eyes on rising challengers like upstart Hopper which has skyrocketed up the charts." Did you know you can no longer use Airbnb in New York? So, the competition between hotels and rentals is pretty intense. So is their digital competition. Here is Hilton’s ad: https://shrtm.nu/0FK7XxW Here is the one from Airbnb: https://shrtm.nu/iqDNaMf You can tell how they aim at each other. The fun part for me is that they use the same value proposition, but how differently does it play out for each case? It made me think of outsourcing business. Most companies have the same value proposition. Just some food for thought.

#travel #technology #marketing #sales Expedia Group, Booking Holdings, Airbnb and Trip.com Group – four the biggest spenders for marketing&sales within travel technology companies. Collectively these four brands spent a staggering $16.8 billion on sales and marketing in 2023. Perfect example to follow 😅

The travel boom continues! #traveltech is right there with it, calling for an acceleration. Tripadvisor, Expedia Group, Booking.com, Airbnb and Uber all reported earnings last week and almost all have outperformed the S&P 500 (+17% YTD). Investors might be waiting for pricing to fall or occupancy to dip, but there are no signs of it yet. You can take a look at the chart from J.P. Morgan…or you can probably glance at the lines at your local airport…#hottravelsummer #earnings #runup #traveltech

Behind the Scenes at Booking.com: The Power of a Multi-Brand Empire 🌐🏆 While researching Booking.com, I uncovered some surprising insights that show just how influential this company has become. Did you know that although Booking.com began as a Dutch startup in 1996, it was acquired by the US-based Priceline Group for $133 million in 2005? Today, Priceline Group has transformed into Booking Holdings. People who love travelling often rely on multiple platforms for a host of needs such as car rentals, hotel reservations, flight bookings among others. We are all very much familiar with the giants in these industries such as priceline.com, agoda, kayak, rentalcars.com and opentable. Do you know what is common in all of them? Well, surprisingly, it is owned by a SINGLE company (Booking holdings). This is called a multi brand strategy which companies often adapt to gain market share and have a competitive edge. So how do the two brands really distinguish themselves from each other? While Agoda focusses on the Asia-Pacific region with localized content and great deals for price-sensitive travelers, Booking.com offers a global reach, catering to a wide range of customers, including corporate and business travelers. Stay tuned as I dive deeper into: 🔍 The operational aspects of Booking.com 🔍 My favorite area: Unit economics and profitability #BusinessInsights #TravelTech #BookingDotCom #Agoda #TravelIndustry #MultiBrandStrategy #StartupSuccess #Innovation #SuccessStory

Rumor has it that today is “Book Direct” day. I love it! The problem is that most consumers don’t know what that even means and in an industry with so many suppliers without leading standout brands, travelers aren’t as interested in booking direct like they often do with major airlines or hotel chains. They want a brand… Hence the big fee based OTAs like Airbnb & Vrbo. It can be argued whether these sites are working for suppliers or travelers. They have certainly consolidated supply and provided travelers with a brand, but at what cost? The fees are out of hand… What the industry needs is an OTA that gives travelers a branded place to find and book vacation rentals DIRECTLY and WITHOUT THE SERVICE FEES… Amiright?? 😉 #bnbfinder #BookDirect #FeesSuck
