In the face of rising costs and the need for rapid innovation, businesses can benefit from taking a step back to rethink technology capabilities as an iterative process. After all, sustained intention should balance needs and costs rather than a treating as a one-off and all-in event. An "Operate to Transform" approach framed in this WSJ CIO Journal article by Deloitte leaders Michael Bundy, Afzal Sulaiman, and Sumeet Dey posits a focus on smart partnerships and thoughtful prioritization. As a particular callout, I am intrigued by the guidance offered around injections of next-generational talent. This can be an inhibitor for organizations with limited technical skillsets. Thinking through how to rebadge teams that have been traditionally called when something breaks to serve as organizational thought leaders and "transformation guides" is an aspiring suggestion as long as the motivation and opportunity match! Take a look at the latest from WSJ CIO Journal on Operate to Transform strategy. #BusinessTransformation #OperateToTransform #TechInnovation

Digital transformation is inching upwards on the executive priority list, but for finance and tech executives to create an effective investment strategy, it's important that they speak each other's language, Martha Heller, CEO of executive search firm Heller Search Associates told CFO Dive. CFOs "must become comfortable with technology leadership being here at the executive table, rather than something under them to be managed as a cost," Heller said in an interview. #digitaltransformation #executivesearch #leadership https://lnkd.in/evyXJJDd

As long as we measure the quality of governance by the elected leaders’ capacity to maintain our “same old, same old” state of affairs (#limitingbelief) this seems inevitable. I’m wondering how to introduce “ability for creating the crucial creative backdrop for innovation, needed because of major environmental shifts” into our election campaigns and organizational governance mindsets. Any ideas? #fitnessforpurpose #complexsystems #humility #humansystemsdynamics #HSD
🇨🇦 It's a figurative management theory ouroboros. The Federal government (and not just the present administration), using The Most Prevalent Theory of Management, hires the very same consultants (also specialists in the same theory) who helped them outsource their thinking on management to consultants, for ideas on how to rein-in spending on... the same consultants. One feeds into the other in an ever-increasing cycle of need and dependence, with nothing learned except, perhaps, a Pavlovian response reflex Rx? Leadership must learn new theory, for the old one has in-built features that lead to these kinds of outcomes. Best way forward is to begin reading #Deming. Ten chapters, 150 pages, that has changed many minds in the thirty years since it was published. Still relevant, still useful, and a lot cheaper than hiring consultants for ideas on how to contain their billables. I did find it surprising that according to this article “Nearly three-quarters (73%) of CFOs surveyed said they are never aligned with the CIO when it comes to their organization’s strategic priorities.” Is that true in your experience? #leadership #finance #cfo #management
