What is your client paying you for? The answer is simple: to help them with their recruitment process. Once we start the process, we’re doing our job. And should be paid for it. From the start. The problem is, most recruiters believe that their service is to place a candidate with a client. But if that’s true, then why do we have zero control over the final hiring decision? A client can choose to freeze their hiring, change or cancel the role, take an internal or direct candidate… the list of events outside of our control seems endless. 🤔🤔 I was recently asked by a US based client if the candidate or employee will foot the recruitment fee instead of the company. Is this a new phenomenon? 🤔🤔 I certainly don't agree with it and can't see this becoming the norm in future. I'd love to hear if other recruiters have been asked this question by a client. The Recruitment Reset – Bridging the Gap: Nothing will be accomplished outside of an admission that the process is broken and in need of repair. Communication is the only way to bridge this gap between recruiters and hiring authorities/HR. It is crucial for recruiters to engage in honest conversations with hiring authorities to prevent the pitfalls of transactional recruitment. There needs to be a framework around this relationship stipulating a clear set of expectations, defined timelines, and transparency around what hiring authorities can expect from their recruitment partner. Trust is EVERYTHING in business. This is especially true in recruitment. Relationships are so important in this industry! Here’s why. When you boil recruitment down to its core, recruiters get paid based on how much people trust them. Recruiters’ relationships with both candidates and clients defines how much money they make because their job is to form a mutual connection between both parties. Only by doing this does their business work. Last week I was worried. I felt that a candidates was questioning their trust in me. I get it. I’ve been around long enough to know that relationships between recruiters and candidates used to be transactional. But I truly believe we are seeing the end of this in dawn of a more personal, trust based approach. This new approach benefits everybody!
