What is your client paying you for? The answer is simple: to help them with their recruitment process. Once we start the process, weโre doing our job. And should be paid for it. From the start. The problem is, most recruiters believe that their service is to place a candidate with a client. But if thatโs true, then why do we have zero control over the final hiring decision? A client can choose to freeze their hiring, change or cancel the role, take an internal or direct candidateโฆ the list of events outside of our control seems endless. Recruiters are the first line of defence. If you do not impress them, you will never make it to a hiring manager. When you boil recruitment down to its core, recruiters get paid based on how much people trust them. Recruitersโ relationships with both candidates and clients defines how much money they make because their job is to form a mutual connection between both parties. Only by doing this does their business work. Last week I was worried. I felt that a candidates was questioning their trust in me. I get it. Iโve been around long enough to know that relationships between recruiters and candidates used to be transactional.
