Ironically, just as we were at the LEAP exhibition in #Riyadh a Saudia Technic aircraft suffered a disastrous #birdstrike at Heathrow airport. Many approached our corner inside the Lenovo booth to ask for information and try to understand how this danger could be mitigated. It was indeed a somewhat fortunate coincidence, as everyone present at the fair, but not only, realised in just one day how much anyone is actually exposed to the danger of birdstrike. In addition to the danger, of course at stake are the millions of dollars to repair the aircraft wing that was badly damaged. Seeing the BCMS system in action at the fair, everyone in an obvious way wondered why there is not one at every airport. Because it is only after accidents have happened that you realise the value of prevention, the importance of making the airport perceived as a dangerous place for birds. This is the only way to reduce their numbers in areas where they are a danger and this can only be done by removing them from time to time, day by day by automated means supervised by humans. This is what we have done at the #Dhaka airport, where in one year we have reduced the presence of the birds by 45%, only thanks to the guidance provided by the BCMS to scare them away when they fly or stand in the #airport. #birdstrike #aviation #airsidesafety #bird #wildlifeprotection #flightsafety

Ibn Saud. USS Quincy. FDR. DC3. Saudia. The common thread - the birth of aviation in the Kingdom. The missing element? The airport where the DC-3s were based/operated from. A short feature this week in the series, “Aviation in Saudi: Past, Present, and Future.” The Kandara airport in Jeddah is said to be Saudia's first operating base and KSA's first airport. The airport doesn't exist anymore, it was redeveloped into a multi-purpose real estate parcel in the early 1980's. Kandara gave way to Saudia’s swanky new base in Jeddah, the King Abdulaziz International Airport. Fast forward to today, 28 airports across the length and breadth of the Kingdom serve communities with scheduled commercial operations. Next week, we will dive into more details of the Kingdom's current airport landscape and grand plans. (Credits to respective photographer/s for image/s from the early days; views my own; happy to amend inaccuracies, if any) P.S. The satellite image from 2023 still shows a part of the runway in the land parcel that was redeveloped. The image from 1956 is an aerial shot of Jeddah with a clear view of the runways at the Kandara Airport. #vision2030 #saudiaviationstrategy #aviation #saudiarabia

What is the Difference Between Aviation operations vs flight operations? In aviation operations, we have all the activities performed in the aviation sector where it is related to general aviation, commercial or military aviation. For example, for the manufacturing of the aircraft aviation operation would be its designing, manufacturing, and making the aircraft airworthiness or fit to fly. Same as other operations in different departments of aviation which would be related to aircraft or airports are in aviation operations. Following are the examples of aircraft-related operations: • Manufacturing • Maintaining • Marking and coloring • Airworthy Some of the aviation operations related to airports are: • Safety • Security • Air traffic control service • Loading and unloading cargo/passengers Primarily all the airside operation falls under the umbrella of aviation operations but on the landside, we have some non-aviation operations there (food, shopping), etc. To understand what are flight operations let me give an example there was news that said that Serene Air had started its flight operation in Dubai which means that now Serene Airlines is flying to Dubai Airport from Pakistan. Flight operations are related to flying and with the help of this operation the aircraft safely fly to its desired destination. These include the following operations: • Flight planning • Security checks • Flight Dispatch • Operations Control • Navigation • Performance • Landing and Overflight Permits • Ground-to-air communications #Aviation #Flightoperatons #Aviationoperations #Airlines #Airports #Aircrafts #CommericalAviation

‘Good morning from King Fahad Int. Airport’ Look at this magnificent scene of Saudia aircraft passing over a bridge taxiway. On this occasion, let's talk about..." “ Bridge Taxiways: Enhancing Airport Safety and Efficiency” Bridge taxiways play a crucial role in airport infrastructure, providing a means for aircraft to cross over roads, railways, or other taxiways. These unique structures come with specific standards, classifications, and associated risks that must be carefully managed to ensure safe and efficient aircraft operations. Standards and Classifications: * The bridge portion width should match or exceed the graded area of the taxiway. * Minimum width standards based on code letters: * Code Letter A: 20.5 m * Code Letter B: 22 m * Code Letter C: 25 m * Code Letter D: 37 m * Code Letter E: 38 m * Code Letter F: 44 m Hazards and Risks: Several hazards and risks are associated with bridge taxiways, including aircraft overhang, structural integrity concerns, limited maneuvering space for emergency vehicles, jet blast effects, and various accident factors such as mechanical failures and visibility issues. These risks highlight the importance of proper design, maintenance, and operational procedures to mitigate potential incidents. Mitigation Measures: To address these risks effectively, airport authorities and operators must prioritize proper maintenance of bridge structures, clear signage and lighting for guidance, comprehensive training programs for personnel, and robust emergency response planning. By implementing these mitigation measures, the safety and efficiency of aircraft operations on bridge taxiways can be significantly enhanced. In conclusion, bridge taxiways serve as critical components of airport infrastructure, facilitating the movement of aircraft across obstacles. By adhering to established standards, understanding associated risks, and implementing appropriate mitigation measures, airports can ensure the safe and efficient operation of bridge taxiways, contributing to overall aviation safety.
