Do political yard signs actually work? I love PJ Vogt’s new podcast Search Engine. The show tackles culture’s weird burning questions. The approach is very Strat-y. Last week they tackled the efficacy of political yard signs. Which got me thinking about the efficacy of OOH (because what Brooklyn agency doesn’t love OOH comps. Show me one deck that doesn’t have them. I’ll wait.) I won’t ruin the pod. It’s a great listen. But the net-net is yes. There is a quantifiable number associated with exposure to yard signs. It yields about +10% in conversion. “Name recognition matters on the margins in the absence of information.” Of course, local elections have a different consumer journey than say CPG. There is a timeline we all tick down to and a list we are forced to choose from. But I think a parallel can be drawn to other verticals. When we work with Match we use Street Easy data to target the neighborhoods with the highest level of singles over 30, launch during key dating seasons, and pick placements in neighborhoods where people go on dates. We try to circle the “arena of consideration” and for the past three years, it has paid off. So now you can tell your Creative Directors that their beautiful OOH comps aren’t just for FPO, they have the potential to drive +10% conversion (as long as the consumer is imminently entering the arena of consideration.) Anyway, this is a really long way of saying, “I like this podcast. Maybe you will too.” https://lnkd.in/esiyhDpZ

Unless you've been living under a rock you would have heard the announcement of the General Election being confirmed for early July. Whilst at The Podcast Show the news dropped and it was a hot topic amongst panels and talks for the rest of the event. The upcoming July election promises to be a pivotal moment in the political landscape, with key issues such as the economy, healthcare, and climate policy at the forefront of voters' minds. This election is not just about choosing representatives but also about setting the direction for the country's future amidst global uncertainties and domestic challenges. As the date approaches, campaigns are intensifying, and voter engagement is becoming increasingly critical. In an innovative move, Channel 4 has decided to harness the power of podcasting to enrich its election coverage. Recognizing the growing influence of podcasts in shaping public discourse, the network has assembled a panel of renowned podcast talent to provide analysis and commentary. Presented by Emily Maitlis from The News Agents joined exclusively throughout the night by The Rest is Politics podcast hosts Alastair Campbell and Rory Stewart who will bring their own inimitable analysis across the night, and some familiar faces from Gogglebox will also be part of the eclectic line-up. This approach not only brings fresh perspectives to traditional broadcast media but also appeals to a younger, tech-savvy audience that consumes news differently. Furthermore, YouGov found that one in five listeners now chooses podcasts as their primary news source, highlighting the significant role podcasts play in modern media consumption. This panel of podcast experts is expected to bring a dynamic and engaging element to the election discussions. Their unique styles and deep dives into issues can offer nuanced insights that go beyond the usual soundbites. By integrating podcast talent, Channel 4 is bridging the gap between old and new media, making the election coverage more accessible and compelling for a diverse audience. This innovative strategy underscores the evolving nature of media consumption and its role in shaping public opinion during crucial electoral moments. With leading publishers already taking the leap, more will follow suit in 2024 and beyond. Watch this space! #generalelection #podcasting #newsconsumption #news #podcastconsumption

Now that I can finally vote in Norway, both in the local (upcoming) elections, and the national elections, I had to of course make a podcast about it. I hope it can also help inform other new voters, and maybe even some Norwegians, new voters and veterans! Sigurd Hovd is my trusty co-host, fact checker, researcher, and more. Theme song that I can barely live up to by the incredible Chris Helberg, if you don't listen to the actual episode AT LEAST do yourself the favor of listening to the intro. Listen wherever you get your podcasts etc. https://lnkd.in/dKZraSGQ
