New video on enumerations in Power Query. Enumerations allow you to provide options to functions. Some common functions that support enumerations are: * Table.Sort * Table.Group * Date.StartOfWeek * Table.SelectColumns The enumeration in these cases determines the sorting order, the way to group values, provides a day that’s considered the start of the week, and lastly determines what happens when selecting columns that don’t exist in the table. But there’s some fun behavior with enumerations that you may not know. Check out the video to learn exactly what: https://lnkd.in/eWsqNagG Ps. The definitive guide to power query M too covers the topic. I think you’ll like it 🙏

This is probably the most common problem when working with Power Query Converting 1. Flat table to long table 2. Long table to flat table And I didn't check that I already have a couple of videos on this topic. Shout out to Oz du Soleil for his video "Power Query: Identify & Retrieve Partial Strings of Text" https://lnkd.in/gpd4gyiT I adapted the technique to match a keyword table to another table and pull in additional columns from the keyword table. So where XYZ was found on the transactions table row, bring over the other two column values from the keywords table. The only sadness was it results in a new query (cross table join) so I will have to redo my conditional formatting and validations after loading to the worksheet, but still a positive ROI as that will take me less time than the matching will save me (and when I reuse this technique on other projects I'll know to wait until I match to do the other magic!) I did try other things (Mark Proctor's merge trick, Rick de Groot's list function magic, and even Mynda Treacy's video on list functions too) but after several hours and attempts I tried a different set of terms for my Google search and found the (creepy snake) video from Oz. I imagine all of them could have solved this faster for sure! (Celia Alves and Melissa de Korte probably would have a method too!) But slow and steady got me there (uncanny relation to Oz's narration). Note that I couldn't use split by delimiter or position of etc, it needed to be Text.Contains sort of match. Also in the comments on the video, @bgezal mentions that there is a third argument for ignoring case (reminded me of Rick de Groot revealing all the hidden undocumented arguments in M!) Anyway, long way to say Thanks, Oz and all who have helped me thus far. I thought I had lost my skills being out of the 'game' for a few months, so blessed to have been led to the answer today.
