Colorado's day of giving is coming up - not to be confused with the national Giving Tuesday that happened yesterday - and I'd like to bring to your attention my favorite non-profit! CO-LABS is a non-profit consortium of federal research laboratories, institutions, universities, colleges, businesses, and economic development organizations that provide financial and in-kind support for programs that promote the retention and expansion of Colorado's scientific resources. Keeping our scientific research labs and institutes funded is a matter of pragmatism and national security as much as it is a matter of pride and inspiration. The mission of CO-LABS is to support federal labs and keep them funded. This is so important now as these organizations are constantly threatened by budget cuts and downsizing, thereby hindering their ability to produce cutting-edge research for the public. Science can't be put on pause and years of research can be compromised without consistent funding. If you care about Colorado science as much as I do, consider donating to CO-LABS by December 5th. There are matches available and donations of $125 and above are automatically enrolled with an annual Individual Membership which adds you to their invitations to laboratory tours and other events. #givingtuesday #nonprofitfundraising #sciencematters #federalfunding
CO-LABS is made possible by our generous sponsors and fellow science enthusiasts. This year we are joining "Colorado Gives Day" on Tuesday, December 5th, 2023. CO-LABS is dedicated to informing civic and political leaders of the crucial impact that the network of 30+ federally-funded research labs and institutes in Colorado has on our local economy and our national security. If you enjoy the benefits of modern science, please consider CO-LABS for a donation this year and please share this message with your network. We appreciate the support of any amount; donations of $125 and above are automatically enrolled with an annual Individual Membership which adds you to our invitations to laboratory tours and other events. #sciencematters #nonprofit #coloradogives #colorado https://lnkd.in/em5mTAYK

One of my favorite classes in art school was stone carving. I had a fantastic instructor who taught me an important lesson. The traditional tools, like hammer and chisel, felt very safe and approachable, but the more intimidating non traditional power tools like the air chisel worked so much faster. Students who could get past their fear of these intimidating tools would quickly get far ahead. In fundraising, your chief power tool is the individual major gift ask. All the other tools, like the monthly reoccurring gift, or the social media blast asking for donations, all feel safer, but they don't get you very far. Art students and fundraisers who put their focus on the "safer" tools, to avoid the intimidating one, will find themselves missing their goals. The sooner you get past your fears and find the courage to ask for the appointment to begin a gift conversation, the sooner you are going to find success! Do you need help finding the courage you need to begin soliciting major gifts? Reach out today, I'm here to help! #majorgiftmastery #fundraising #nonprofit #philanthropy #majorgifts

Excited to finally see my first book in print "Nonprofit Collaborations in Diverse Communities" with amazing colleagues Abdul Samad and Shariq Siddiqui. "Using a community-based participatory research approach, Shariq A. Siddiqui, Abdul Samad, and Rafeel Wasif investigate the challenges and opportunities in collaborations between nonprofit organizations. With a focus on diverse minority communities, particularly under-resourced, racialized and stigmatized nonprofits and Muslim-led organizations, this book provides different approaches to connect them with the broader philanthropic community." https://lnkd.in/d5H4jPx6

Strategically minded communications and marketing professional who loves big ideas and a great story.
I realized lately that I might not actually be doing LinkedIn correctly, so here's an attempt to use my deeply limited sphere of influence for some actual good, based on my understanding of the argot of the space: Hey LinkedIn fam! 👋💼 Let's talk about a game-changer in our communities - 𝗟𝗼𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗝𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗻𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘀𝗺! 🗞🔍 𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝘀𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝗹𝗼𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗷𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗻𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘀𝗺, 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗮𝘀𝗸? 🤔 It's simple - they are the 𝗘𝘆𝗲𝘀 👀, 𝗘𝗮𝗿𝘀 👂, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗩𝗼𝗶𝗰𝗲 👊 of our local communities! 🏙️ They tirelessly work to bring us the stories that matter most - the businesses, the events, and the heroes in our backyard! 🌟 Supporting local journalism isn't just a trend, it's an 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗮𝗰𝘁! 💪 It empowers us to stay informed, make better decisions, and ultimately, strengthen our communities! 🤝 So let's take a moment today to salute our local journalists 🎩📰 - the unsung heroes who work tirelessly to keep us connected and informed! It's rough out there when incompetent companies are attacking the very nature of the business (I can attest to this personally 😮💨). Shout out to groups like Arizona Luminaria, Tucson Agenda, Arizona Agenda, Arizona Public Media and TucsonSentinel.com for putting up the good fight, continuing to make people in power uncomfortable. 🌐📡 Remember, every click, like, subscription and share counts! Come check out this forthcoming conversation led by the Community Foundation of Southern Arizona. Let's spread the word and 𝗘𝗠𝗣𝗢𝗪𝗘𝗥 𝗢𝗨𝗥 𝗖𝗢𝗠𝗠𝗨𝗡𝗜𝗧𝗬! 🚀💡 #SupportLocalJournalism #CommunityStrong #EmpowerThroughMedia #LinkedInInfluencePost #MakeADifferenceToday 🌐🗞

Are you “likable” enough to be a fundraiser? Being likable as a fundraiser goes beyond simply asking for donations; it's about building trust and rapport with donors. By genuinely connecting with them, understanding their motivations, and communicating effectively, fundraisers can foster positive relationships that lead to long-term support. Additionally, demonstrating the tangible impact of donations reinforces the trust donors place in the organization, making them more likely to continue supporting its mission. Overall, being likable as a fundraiser involves authenticity, empathy, and a commitment to making a meaningful difference in the lives of both donors and those the organization serves. #valuablevisits #philanthropy #majorgifts

Working at the intersection of storytelling, data, and fundraising to help amazing organizations raise money and transform lives.
Extremely misleading. Most of these people are giving to their own foundations, which are only required to dispense 5% of their assets each year. For example, if the Dells gave all of their $975M to their foundation (they didn't; their giving was split between their foundation and their DAF), the foundation is would only need to give out $48M. A better measurement of generosity is how much was given by these donors' foundations as a percentage of total assets and how much was unrestricted giving.
