Dear Colleagues, Our recent publication in the American Journal of Case Reports by authors from the University of Texas Health Science Center, Tyler, Texas, USA, sheds light on the use of reinforced tissue matrices in complex cases of penetrating abdominal trauma. The study showcases two cases where OviTex reinforced tissue matrices were employed to achieve and maintain abdominal wall closure, resulting in favorable outcomes. This research highlights the potential of reinforced biologics as an alternative to biological meshes in contaminated surgical fields. Furthermore, the study suggests that OviTex reinforced tissue matrices may offer a cost-effective option for achieving abdominal wall closure, even in complex cases.
