Good news for my Italia-CAnada network…… several times during last 5 editions of the Italia-CAnada Forum for Artificial Intelligence organized by the Camera di Commercio Italiana in Canada we discussed about the opportunity to have a boost to accelerate the collaboration among groups of our countries… now it is here.

🇨🇦 Canada has officially joined the Horizon Europe program! ✨ 🌍 Canada now joins the ranks of non-EU countries associated to Framework Programme. 🤝 By joining New Zealand 🇳🇿 and South Korea 🇰🇷, Canada is set to collaborate on addressing industrial, social, and environmental challenges. 🌱🔬🏗️ 📜 Under the agreement signed by EU Commissioner Iliana Ivanova and Canadian Prime Minister François-Philippe Champagne, Canadian researchers and organizations will participate under the same conditions in Pillar II of the program as their EU counterparts. ✍️ For Pillars I and III of Horizon Europe, Canadian participation opportunities remain unchanged as till now. 💡🔧 Canadian entities are currently involved in 155 projects within Horizon Europe and have so far received over €6 million from the program, including €2.3 million in ERC grants. 💶📈 🤝 We look forward to new opportunities and partnerships! 🌐✨ Canada to join Horizon Europe in 2024! 🌍🇪🇺🇨🇦 After extensive negotiations, the EU and Canada have sealed the deal! Canadian researchers will officially join the Horizon Europe research programme starting next year. 🚀🔬 📅 The historic agreement was unveiled at the EU-Canada summit in St. John’s, Newfoundland on 24 November. 🤝 This comprehensive deal spans various sectors, including research, energy, digital, and aerospace, marking a new era of collaboration. 🎉 Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau expressed his enthusiasm, calling Horizon Europe "the greatest research and innovation mechanism in the world right now." 🍁 European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen echoed the excitement, anticipating groundbreaking discoveries from joint projects. 🤐 While details remain scarce due to ongoing administrative work, Von der Leyen assured that the agreement would be signed before mid-next year, enabling Canadian researchers to tap into Horizon's funding. 🌍 From then on, Canadian researchers and institutions will dive into Pillar II of Horizon Europe, contributing to solving global challenges in climate, energy, digital economy, and health. 💡🌱 Initially, the scale might be modest, with expectations around C$50 million (€33.6 million) for the first few years. 🤝 Canadian researchers will also join networks connecting them to counterparts in the EU and 18 other associated countries under Horizon Europe. 🌐🌍 Get ready for a wave of innovation and collaborative breakthroughs! 🚀🔍 #HorizonEurope #ResearchCollaboration #EUCanadaPartnership 🇪🇺🌟🇨🇦

🇪🇺🇨🇦 At the Canada-EU Summit, the European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced the conclusion of negotiations for #Canada's association to Pillar II of Horizon Europe, the #EU's key funding programme for #research and #innovation. 🤝 The signing of the Association Agreement is expected to take place in 2024, pending the completion of all necessary validations on both sides. Once signed, researchers and organisations in Canada will be able to receive funding under Pillar II of the Horizon Europe. Pillar II is the largest collaborative part of the programme that is primarily focused on shared global challenges: #climate, #energy, #digitaleconomy and #health, with a budget of €53.5 billion. Association to #HorizonEurope is the deepest form of collaboration offered by the EU in research and innovation. It will enable researchers and organisations in Canada to collaborate in calls under Pillar II of the programme on equal terms with entities from the EU Member States. They will also have access to networks of researchers in the EU and 18 other countries associated to Horizon Europe as of 2024.
