✊ 👩🔬 𝗘𝗺𝗽𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗪𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻 𝗶𝗻 𝗕𝗶𝗼𝗽𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗺𝗮: 𝗕𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗕𝗮𝗿𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗗𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗜𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 👩🔬 ✊ It’s easy to forget that change takes time... However Drugmakers and industry organizations have launched a wave of #𝙙𝙞𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙨𝙞𝙩𝙮, #𝙚𝙦𝙪𝙞𝙩𝙮 𝙖𝙣𝙙 #𝙞𝙣𝙘𝙡𝙪𝙨𝙞𝙤𝙣 efforts over the last decade, but in some respects, it seems like the needle has barely budged. 𝗪𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻 𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗮𝗶𝗻 𝘃𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗹𝘆 𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗱 across #biotech’s highest ranks, and recent #data suggest slow progress. Gender equality in #biotech has been increasingly discussed over the last few years. A significant amount of it has been positive: today we see a strong gender balance in the #workplace in many parts of the developed world, with about 40–50% of employees at #biotech companies being women in the UK, United States and Europe. Still, the numbers show that this percentage drops sharply when we start looking at C-suite. In a report from 2020, only one in four US #startups had a female founder, 40% 𝙥𝙚𝙧𝙘𝙚𝙣𝙩 𝙝𝙖𝙙 𝙖𝙩 𝙡𝙚𝙖𝙨𝙩 𝙤𝙣𝙚 𝙬𝙤𝙢𝙖𝙣 𝙤𝙣 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙗𝙤𝙖𝙧𝙙 𝙤𝙛 𝙙𝙞𝙧𝙚𝙘𝙩𝙤𝙧𝙨 𝙖𝙣𝙙 42% 𝙝𝙖𝙙 𝙖𝙩 𝙡𝙚𝙖𝙨𝙩 𝙤𝙣𝙚 𝙬𝙤𝙢𝙖𝙣 𝙞𝙣 𝙖𝙣 𝙚𝙭𝙚𝙘𝙪𝙩𝙞𝙫𝙚 𝙥𝙤𝙨𝙞𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣. At the same time, we’ve seen the statistics that show that companies that score high in gender #diversity on executive teams are 𝟮𝟱% 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗹𝗶𝗸𝗲𝗹𝘆 𝘁𝗼 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘃𝗲-𝗮𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗳𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆, and compared to individual decision makers, teams that are gender-diverse are better at making business decisions 73% of the time, versus 58% for teams that are all-male. The woman-to-woman network is huge and #influential. Women-led companies are more likely to have other women on their boards. Equally, women-led #investment teams tend to invest in a higher percentage of female #entrepreneurs. Women in biotech are passionate — certainly about their jobs, but also about helping other women, and will go out of their way to do so. A recent article from Endpoints News Interviewed Michelle Longmire & 20 other outstanding Women in Biopharma. "My experience is that when you see someone you subconsciously identify with, your mind frame of “I can do this” suddenly becomes very real. When I was young, there were not many women #physicians , and now women make up more than 50%.The more that we really change the top – the CEOs, the founders, the executive team – the more that women will see they can do that. It’s a checkmark in your mind, where you relate to that person in a very significant way." - Michelle Longmire As we can see, there is progress, but more needs to be done. Both from #recruiters and companies alike. Evidence shows productivity and equity leaps when further #DEI is established within business. The future is bright for women in biopharma. Below is an incredible article on inspiring Women in Biopharma & their thoughts. Would love to know yours!

From Women's History Month to International Women's Day celebrations, March is a time to champion the power of women's voices and help drive positive change this month and every month. At Capsovision, we believe it’s also a time to celebrate the ongoing accomplishments of women in gastroenterology and the rising number of women making history in medicine at large. Groups like American College of Gastroenterology’s Women in GI Committee are inspiring examples of medical leaders working on advancement of women in gastroenterology, promoting research and understanding of the gender differences in gastrointestinal diseases, and bringing greater awareness to the unique issues faced by women in the field. Use the link below to learn more about the Committee, its resources, and it efforts to provide information for women in gastroenterology on different practice models, work-life integration, gender equity, leadership, and driving the future change in gastroenterology and hepatology. https://lnkd.in/eRTzX7Xp
