We had a special opportunity to offer a unique internship experience that's not just a resume booster but a chance for impact. Meet Leticia and Grace, two Taunton High School seniors from the Boston, MA, area. They brought fresh perspectives and enthusiasm as marketing interns this spring. They focused on marketplace design visualization with AutoCAD software, and their designs are now being used as inspiration for future marketplaces. We're proud of their accomplishments and the incredible work they've done during their time here! Read more on their experience on our blog: https://lnkd.in/gXTeC3av

I have learned so much from my internship so far. First of all I have been able to experience what it would be like to work with a team which is a very important factor when deciding how/where I would like to continue my graphic design career. Fortunately I have been able to work with some amazing people at EasyPost, all of whom have had a positive impact on my internship. It has helped me realize that the people you work with have a huge impact on your career and workplace. Some other important lessons I have learned from my internship is that it’s okay to ask for help. Some people might not love my designs and taking feedback is a very important soft skill. Sometimes a project will take longer than expected so I shouldn’t get stressed or upset. Sometimes taking a step back from my design and working on it later can help me realize what next steps I should take. All these lessons will help me become a better graphic designer overall. Someone asked me what advice I would give to a future intern. From my experience at my internship I would say: •Take advantage of learning from those with more experience than you, ask lots of questions. •Grow a great relationship with your mentor and “coworkers” •Write down important things or lessons you learn and make sure you have something to show from your internship that reflects on how your skills grew •!! Soak it all in and don’t take a single day for granted because it’ll be over before you know it and you’ll be wishing you could rewind time and start from the beginning again #alpinecteinternships #mountainlandcte Alpine School District CTE Internships

Product Intern @Adobe’23 | 3M+ impressions | Web development Manager at The E-Cell, VNIT | GSSOC'22 | EEE VNIT
creating my own space became a lifeline Moving to a different city has been less exciting and more uncertain. In the adjusting phase, the only thing I could count on was my room. I think of it as my storybook that tells who I am. I believe in creating a space that sets my mood with favorite posters, green vines, and fairy lights (yes, I carried that to bglr for my internship) But it's not just about aesthetics, it's about creating a space that speaks to your soul. Your room becomes a reflection of your personality, values, and dreams, serving as a constant reminder of who you are and where you're headed. So, as you unpack your stuff for a new life, remember the importance of decorating your space. It's more than just arranging furniture and hanging up pictures, it's about creating a space that feels like home, no matter where you are in the world. PS: I lived in a triple-sharing room and the smile I saw on their faces was such a beautiful sight! #dream #internship #createyourstory #softwareengineering #coding

Wondering whether any university students out there are interested in a part-time internship over the summer working with my presentation consulting firm? This is paid work and there is a very specific project to get done. It's creating a series of case studies from client work over the last 12 months. As such, the person doing the work would need to: 1. Do some interviews with me (and potentially my colleagues) about the work done. 2. Gather evaluation data and comments from our systems about what the participants thought of their experiences learning with us. 3. Write these up into one-page case studies suitable for website or PDF. 4. Work with graphic designer on the layout and design of the content. 5. Get final approval for each case study from client and me. The company is Presenting Virtually and you can read more about us here https://lnkd.in/eXTjdE9y I estimate that this is 1-2 days per week and pay is £15/hour. This could all be completed virtually. I've put together a short video about this and a brief application process - links in the comment below.

This is a great article from Design Week, about Junior Designers. https://lnkd.in/e6u9nag3 I am a massive believer in the importance of nurturing young talent and giving them the stepping stone they need to get a career in this industry. From a personal point of view, watching my son try to get work experience just as COVID hit, followed by lockdown GCSEs was a heartbreaking time. He’s now in his final year of college, but wasn’t offered a work experience placement - colleges are having to focus on getting attendance levels back to pre-COVID levels before being able to steer resources into other areas. Talking to him, his tutors and his fellow classmates was partly what drove me to start creating an internship programme at Creative Spark. I wanted to bridge the gap from leaving college or university and securing a Junior Designer position. We have had interns come into Spark for short periods of time, on an unpaid basis. Although this still offered an opportunity to young designers, it didn’t go far enough. I wanted to ensure we had a programme to follow, with set briefs for designers to work on, as well as giving them the chance to work on live client work, with the rest of our Studio team. Getting experience is vital. This is why I wanted to try and host more than one internship per year.. We will be giving hands-on experience to up to four people per year, in paid placements. So, it really feels like we could be doing our bit to give back and encourage new talent. Who knows, one of the interns could prove to be a world-beating talent that we decide to keep on as a Junior! Juniors can thrive in the right environment! We managed to secure Kate Rabjohns as she finished her degree at Falmouth University in 2022, and we are currently looking to get her to Midweight levels. She will gain so much experience from mentoring the interns (with help from the team) too! It's a win win for Spark! The design industry is a mess! Can we sort this out, please? This was me in 2015 after a three month long unpaid internship. Why are there still graduates finishing universities who are expected to do unpaid work for months before even being considered to be worthy of a junior designer's position? How is that fair? 🤔 In an industry where practical experience and a diploma is valued so higly, shouldn't the higher education institutions provide students with this experience, so that they could hit the ground running the moment they enter the 'real world'? I look back at my career in this week's YouTube video and make a note of how much I got paid at each career milestone. This has instigated some interesting conversations in my DMs and comments since there is a worldwide audience tuning into this content. One topic that does stand out is that of internships and work experience and how that is rewarded throughout designer's career. Not just at the beginning. Designers often feel undervalued and stuck. It's like we have been set up for failure from the beginning. Can we do better? If you're looking to hire a fresh graduate for a junior position, can you give them a chance to start their career without having to work 4 jobs at the same time? I hope you can ✌️ Share your thoughts below 👇👇👇 * Slightly off topic and not the usual positive tone today, but I felt like it was important to share.
