Viva Tech is a technology fair that takes place annually in Paris, a rendezvous for start-ups focused on innovation. As expected, this year's edition, taking place from May 22nd to 25th, focused on AI. During one of the presentations, a few details regarding the upcoming AI model from OpenAI were revealed, and they are quite significant: - The release date is November 2024, and it will be called GPT-next (the date has been pushed back due to the elections in the US). - The overall capability will be more than double compared to GPT-4. - It will be a major leap in terms of reasoning abilities compared to previous models. - It will also have an improved understanding of context and nuances, and be able to make more sophisticated decisions. If these are true, and I'm confident that they are, 2025 will be the year when AI goes mainstream for both personal and professional domains. A McKinsey study has already proved that employees using AI are more productive than those who do not (duh...), and curing the reasoning deficiencies of the current models will finally unleash AI's potential to be used in day-to-day activities and not only for specific situations. AI is quickly moving from being a point of differentiation to becoming a point of parity, thus companies not using it will have a handicap - I expect this to happen as of 2026 onwards, thus next year will be the last chance for the companies to get a head start. Also, I expect that 2025 will be the year of AI agents, which will unleash the currently under-exploited potential of AI models.
