SLOVAKIA: Where East meets West 🇸🇰♥️🕊 I wish for peace, tranquility and cooperation, for the good of Slovakia. In the midst of all the chaos, anger and polarization it’s easy to lose sight of just how much we have grown as a young nation over our three decades of existence. I say it now, just as I have said it before. We are a lot better off than we realize. Yes, this is a critical election, yes it will decide the future of this country for the next decade to come, but life will go on- just as it has before. Let’s find a way to work together, across the divide- The current politicians are a mirror reflection of the composition of this country, from the more liberal voices of the west to the more conservative voices of the east. They represent what makes up SLOVAKIA, and the needs of both sides should be understood, not negated and certainly not snubbed. I believe SLOVAKIA can be both a modern country, one that values it’s traditions and sovereignty, but one that is equally open to cooperate with the world and embrace modernity. 3 May Constitution Day (also 3rd May National Holiday) is a Polish national and public holiday that takes place on 3 May. Today is the 233rd anniversary of this event. The holiday celebrates the declaration of the Constitution of 3 May 1791 - the first modern constitution in Europe and the second one in the world – 2 years after United States The Significance of March 4. The Constitution, adopted on May 3, 1791, by the Four-Year Sejm, is called "the last will and testament of the fading homeland", and after Poland lost its independence, it reminded us of Polish sovereignty during the partitions. Despite the 123 years of darkness that followed shortly after this event, it is one of the most important days in Poland's history. On 6 & 7 March 2024, the European People's Party conference took place in the Romanian capital Bucharest. The entire #EPP party family came together. Of course the Konrad Adenauer Foundation was also represented. On the first day of the party conference, the EPP adopted a manifesto aimed at securing the "European way of life" in freedom, justice & democracy. The manifesto includes concrete proposals for a strong, competitive, and citizen-orientated Europe. Political proposals in the manifesto range from ramping up the defence industrial base, developing a European #Defence Union, an #EU foreign minister to the appointment of a European Security council. In the area of competitiveness, a strong emphasis is put on reducing regulatory burdens, supporting SMEs, developing energy infrastructure, diversifying the procurement of critical resources as well as on structural a cohesion policies in order to close the gap between rural & urban areas. EPP commits to a citizen-oriented Europe, underlining that the quality of life in Europe depends on social peace as well as on preserving democracy, tradition, cultural riches & diversity. In her speech, Ursula von der Leyen was putting our a clear mission for the EPP campaign: “And let there be no doubt what’s at stake in this election. Our peaceful & united Europe is being challenged like never before by populists, nationalists, and demagogues. Whether it is the far right or the far left. Whether it is the AfD, the Rassemblement National, the confederatia or Wasraschdene. The names may be different, but the goal is the same: They want to trample on our values, and they want to destroy our #Europe. 💼 Yesterday, the leaders of #EU Member States gathered in Brussels to vote on who would take on the Bloc's top institutional roles. ➡️ Ursula von der Leyen (Germany, EPP group) the incumbent President of the European Commission, has been nominated to serve a second term in office. The Hungarian Presidency of the Council of the EU starts today! For the next 6 months, Hungary will drive the EU agenda.  As a coalition dedicated to promoting smoke-free operating rooms, we’re particularly excited about the focus this Presidency wants to put on occupational health and safety, especially the revision of the directive on occupational safety limits for carcinogenic, mutagenic, and reprotoxic substances. Surgical smoke has been proven to contain mutagenic, carcinogenic, and toxic chemicals that cause chronic lung conditions like COPD. We should be holding Hungary to those same standards - Orban is undermining the EU and democracy and being rewarded for doing so. Countries like Hungary and Turkey, who wish to be viewed as progressive Western nations but in reality are little more than modern day dictatorships, must be called out, not coddled.
