The European Union (EU) has imposed massive and unprecedented sanctions against Russia in response to the war of aggression against Ukraine. The sanctions include targeted restrictive measures (individual sanctions), economic sanctions and visa measures. In 2023, the EU has adopted 11 packages of sanctions against Russia. The latest was imposed in June 2023, when the EU added an additional 71 individuals and 33 entities to its list of sanctioned persons and entities. The latest package of sanctions announced by the European Union will require EU-based companies to add a contractual clause preventing the re-export of aviation equipment and related services to Russia.
