Interesting to see that consumption of raw milk has been identified as a potential route of transmission for #avianinfluenza which emphasizes the importance of food technology (e.g. milk pasteurisation) for controlling risk of exposure in consumers.

The ongoing #listeria outbreak that resulted in 17 cases and 2 deaths has been linked to smoked salmon. There are initial indications pointing to two food facilities in Lithuania. Further investigations are required to pintpoint the source. These deaths are preventable! if food facilities are indeed implicated, the investment in establishing robust Good Manufacturing Practices and policy implementation that emphasizes the importance of maintaining elevated sanitary standards and fostering risk-aware personnel, would pale in comparison to the value of a human life. What is Thermophilic Campylobacter? Campylobacter spp., particularly thermophilic species like Camp. jejuni, Camp. coli, and Camp. lari, are widespread in the environment and can cause gastroenteritis, one of the important food borne diseases in developed countries, in humans through contaminated food and water. The bacteria are commonly found in animal and avian feces, and the infectious dose is very low. Symptoms range from mild to severe diarrhea, and treatment with antibiotics is not always effective. To reduce the risk of campylobacter enteritis, it is essential to handle and cook food properly, store meat and dairy products safely, and use food preservatives effectively. #foodbornediseases

So many interesting observations in this article. 1. We're seeing human cases, related to cattle, in multiple states. 2. If the virus spreads from human to human, we could have another situation on our hands. 3. It appears to be doing that. 4. Those initially infected may not be getting tested, nor even seeking medical care. 5. The slow and centralized way the US Govt develops approved testing hasn't changed much since 2020. 6.
