Summer is here, which means we are spending more and more time outside in the sunshine. But let's not forget to stay vigilant about potential health threats like infected mosquitoes. Infected mosquitoes are bringing dangerous new potential public health challenges and we are determined to use every tool at our disposal to tackle these risks and protect our citizens. 💪 🌟 Last Friday, we authorised the first-ever vaccine against Chikungunya virus - a disease transmitted by infected mosquitos. While Chikungunya is not endemic in the EU, the effects of climate change have led to an increased presence of mosquitoes that transmit serious diseases in Europe. The Chikungunya vaccine, which followed a stringent assessment by European Medicines Agency, is intended for adults over 18 years of age. It is up to the national authorities of the individual EU countries to decide who will have access to the vaccine, taking into account the national situation and risk status. 🛡 To further further curb the risk of mosquito-borne diseases spreading in Europe, we are providing €500 000 in funding from the #EU4Healthprogramme towards a pilot project to help eradicate the Aedes aegypti mosquito in Cyprus – where the mosquito has recently been established. It's a very carefully done project. While the irradiation level for mosquito sterilization is substantially higher (68k) than ambient radon radiation levels in Cyprus, it does not disrupt their freedom of natural interaction.
Aussi efficace que celui du Covid? Si cela sort de la besace de Bill Gates soyez prudent
This is amazing - having known people who've had it and been fortunate not to contact it myself, it is a wonderful step towards eradicating mosquito borne diseases.
Great to know and hope there will be more to come 👍

3wWell done 🙌 But on Aedes aegypti, Cyprus is not the only EU country where the mosquito is found; Come to Madeira, downtown Funchal, sit on a beautiful esplanade and 5 minutes later they will introduce themselves.
