Starting next year, the Waste Framework Directive mandates that every EU Member State must establish separate collection systems for used textiles. This is a huge leap for #CircularEconomy as around 16kg of textile waste is generated per person in the 🇪🇺 In more than 1/2 of the EU Member States, it is already mandatory to collect textiles separately, but this is mostly to capture reusable textiles. I am part of a consortium working on designing policy options for an effective textiles Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) framework. The ambition lies in creating a framework adaptable to varying levels of adoption across EU countries.
Actually, in Greece there are already purple bins for recycling clothing and textiles.
