The big topic for many of our global customers in 2024 is #fraud, and how we can safeguard digital identities in the age of generative #AI. At IDnow we commissioned a major research study in the UK alongside YouGov to review what end users know about #deepfakes and to understand their attitudes towards #biometrics and identity verification solutions. The findings show a distinct lack of knowledge around key tactics used by fraudsters, leaving many vulnerable to this growing crime: ▶ Over half of those surveyed (54%) do not know what social engineering is, or the role it plays in fraud ▶ Almost half (47%) do not know what deepfakes are ▶ A third of users have shared scans or photos of ID cards, driving licenses or passports via insecure and largely unencrypted channels, such as social media, email or messenger apps The findings are a firm reminder of the impact that online fraud will continue to have on our digital landscape in the coming years, and the importance of collaboration between our society - identity verification providers, technology providers, government, law enforcement and the public – to identify and stop fraudsters. At IDnow, we’re on a mission to educate and empower our customers in diverse markets, be it financial services, mobility or telecommunication, with the transformative power of digital identity. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/dCt-WPxE

At Tide, we welcome the UK Government's new Online Fraud Charter. Together with much of the industry, Tide has been calling on Government and regulators to enact tougher rules for social media companies in a bid to tackle online fraud because these platforms are being increasingly exploited by criminals to initiate fraud. We welcome the charter's remit to cover detection and blocking of fraudulent material, quick routes to reporting fraud, taking immediate action against fraudulent content and users, dedicated liaisons who will respond to law enforcement requests and the quick sharing of information about fraud. While we would have preferred a binding and more comprehensive framework, this is a huge step in the right direction. We look forward to continuing to collaborate with the tech sector to prevent fraud.
