The whole damn thing. Closed. It's quite a dramatic move. On the one hand, Paramount is up for sale and shedding expenses is the traditional way to make oneself more attractive to potential buyers. On the other hand, dumb moves like this are also a good explanation for why they are up for sale in the first place. Why shut down your entire children's streaming platform? Despite #Netflix ’s growing library of #kidscontent, #YouTube is becoming more popular among these young viewers. Nielsen data shows YouTube’s viewership among 2-to-11-year-olds in the U.S. has increased while Netflix’s share has declined. For example, CoComelon, which is available on both #platforms, received over 2.6B views on YouTube in February 2023 alone—while Netflix reported its first season being viewed for 136M hours in all of 2023. Research shows eight in 10 parents say their children are using streaming services to watch #videocontent weekly, but the challenges of building new franchises in the “fragmented streaming market” have even caused major streamers to reduce their investments in children’s programming.

Someone messaged me asking about good TV programming for Christmas. If you're in the same boat, there are a few things to consider. Firstly, are you working with existing programming and looking to infuse a Christmas vibe? Do you want to revamp your TV content to capture the festive spirit, or are you seeking on-demand content tailored for the season? It's also possible that you're launching a new channel specifically for the Christmas period. If you already have a successful existing program, consider identifying entertainment blocks and swapping them out with the LATEST Christmas movies or animations, tailored to your target audience. Prioritise promoting these holiday specials frequently to build anticipation and remind your audience of the upcoming festive programming. This approach can also work for those who don't have gaps in their entertainment schedule but are willing to tweak their programming for the Christmas day. Emphasise that it's a special programming event to encourage your audience to make time for it. Include Christmas fillers, especially music, to conclude each hour, or use programming breaks to air high-frequency fillers like creative and engaging special messages. Consider giving your properties a Christmas makeover if you prefer not to alter your programming. Decorate sets with Christmas designs, and have presenters dress in festive attire for the day or two. Throughout this process, keep your target audience in mind to prevent them from tuning out. I love everything you are doing at PBS Kids, especially as networks are scaling back on kids' content, PBS Kids is gearing up. Well done. 👏 💚 "Through the years we’ve done research, and [found] kids who watch the TV shows and then play the games actually come away with greater skill gains than kids who just do one or the other. Both are good, but the combination really adds on to itself. Some of my favorite experiences in terms of world-building is around the show Odd Squad. It’s math, live-action, kids solving odd problems. The games on the site allow kids to create an agent avatar, and then to go on quests to try to play it. We talked to the creators about getting kids deeper into that world, and that’s when they launched shorts on YouTube, called Odd Two, a spinoff of Odd Squad. Characters look directly to screen and viewers are told about life as an agent. Kids who are watching are able to put in comments and respond to comments in later episodes."

Discovery warning that providing CNN as a part of its streaming package deal dangers violating the contract between the 2 corporations. CNN’s new CNN Max launched final week on WBD’s Max streaming platform. Unlike its earlier (and rapidly shuttered) iteration CNN+, CNN Max mirrors a lot of the schedule of CNN’s conventional cable channel, together with some unique programming and the CNN Originals library. It’s not stunning that cable and satellite tv for pc suppliers, who pay hefty charges to content material programmers, have balked at information networks providing a streaming simulcast past current linear clients. CNN Max has stated it depends on the CNN International feed, which has totally different, and presumably much less restrictive, settlement than conventional CNN. WBD additionally insists the streaming viewers skews a lot youthful than linear. The media large had no particular touch upon the DirecTV letter however stated it “maintains strong and meaningful relationships with our affiliate partners. Our partners are aware of and understand our rationale with Max, which is to reach new audiences.” Disney, after a contentious carriage battle with cable operator Charter just lately, agreed to make Disney+ and ESPN+ accessible to cable clients at no further value. Charter subscribers may also get the deliberate standalone streaming model of ESPN when it rolls out. (The present ESPN+ service will not be a simulcast of the community.)
