On Monday, the Sea Change Row team, including ERM's Technical Managing Consultant Jess Mc Iver, was forced to withdraw from the GB Row Challenge after their boat sustained significant damage. The team sheltered at Port Quin Bay in Cornwall on Friday night when high winds caused their boat to drift into dangerous conditions. Unable to row back to safety against the wind, they called the coastguard and were brought back to shore. Unfortunately, their boat sustained significant damage, and the bow cabin was no longer watertight. After assessments, it became clear that it could not be fixed, so the crew made the difficult decision to withdraw from the challenge.   The team had been at sea since 9 June, when they left London for their row around the coast of Great Britain. During their journey, they worked tirelessly to raise awareness of coastal initiatives around the UK and remain committed to this mission. We are relieved that all Sea Change Row team members are safe and well but devastated that they have been forced to withdraw from the challenge. Despite their withdrawal, the crew still collected invaluable data on their journey along the east and south coasts of Great Britain. Scientists at the University of Portsmouth will analyze this data, which builds on two years of data already collected by other rowing teams.   Jess Mc Iver, we are so proud of what you and the team have achieved! At ERM, we recognize that sleep significantly impacts our health and performance. That’s why, in the last couple of months, we have been working with Hintsa Performance, renowned performance coaches and experts, to provide our people with resources, answer their questions, and explain the science behind sleep. Hintsa experts explained that ensuring we rest well is not only about the hours of sleep we get—preparation for bedtime is an important factor for quality sleep. Cutting off caffeine intake in the afternoon and going screen-less two hours before bedtime could do wonders for night rest. You should also pay attention to your bedroom, ensuring it’s dark, quiet, and cool. The data on H&S performance from our 2024 Global Health and Safety Survey participants present an ambiguous picture. The report presents findings from engagements with 256 health and safety Function Leaders, who, among other things, identified unique factors that have yielded performance improvements. The most mentioned factors were shifts in senior leadership engagement, improved access to and better quality H&S data, and enhanced H&S standards, management systems, programs, and tools. However, we also examined the 10 most frequently cited key factors the participants identified contributing to performance deterioration. Last week, Environment Analyst Global awarded ERM and EESI Remediation Limited UK the "Remediation Project of the Year" award at the 2024 Sustainability Delivery Awards. ERM and EESI teamed up to deliver a remediation project sustainably in a sensitive environment under close regulatory scrutiny. Our joint submission - Insights from the Sustainable Remediation of an Agrochemical Manufacturing Facility - showcased how sustainability was embedded into each stage of a complex UK remediation project. We are thrilled to share that after six years of development, offshore trials have launched to test key elements of our innovative Dolphyn Hydrogen process. They are being conducted in a floating marine environment in Pembroke Port, South Wales. They represent an important step forward in enabling the UK to produce low-carbon hydrogen safely, reliably, and at scale. Dolphyn Hydrogen brings together the expertise of local and international suppliers in the renewable and hydrogen production industries. ERM has mobilized a team that blends skills and expertise across engineering, health and safety services, permitting and consenting, and stakeholder engagement. Following on from PRIDE month, we are proud to share that we have obtained triple certification from the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) for our commitment to equality and adoption of vital policies for LGBTQ+ employees. In June, the HRC Equidade BR survey, carried out by the Human Rights Campaign, in partnership with the Mais Diversidade and the Fórum de Empresas e Direitos LGBTI+, awarded ERM Brazil the "Best Companies for LGBTQIA+ People to Work For" certification. Together with our teams in Argentina and Mexico, this achievement makes ERM LAC triply certified by the HRC. Our people are our greatest asset, and we know that we must work hard every day to continue to make ERM a place where everyone feels supported and free to be themselves.
