Earlier this month, Slide UX celebrated its 11th anniversary. The milestone got me thinking about the small events that lead me to where I am now. I keep going back to a conversation years ago with my colleague Lisa Smith at T3. Conversations with Lisa are always fascinating to me because she has more experience than I do - both in life and at work. One day as we walked to lunch in 2008 or 2009, I was wrestling with the feasibility of leaving full time work, and she shared some simple perspective that caused me to reconsider my mindset. Ultimately, it was that conversation which made me open to freelancing. That openness set into motion the track that eventually led to Slide UX! Lots of us work remotely now, and it can be easy to keep colleages at arms’ length. But sometimes, these are people we can learn a lot from. For the sake of your own life and your own career, take a little bit of time to get to know those you work with on a personal level. Share a bit about yourself, laugh a little with them, learn about their lives, and make time to connect one-on-one. You never know what those relationships might mean to you as you reflect on your own journey.
Congrats on 11 years! I thought it was longer, was thinking y'all started before us. I def know everyone at mixtape on a personal level, maybe too personal in some cases! :)
Congratulations on the 11th anniversary! I remember that convo so long ago and you are so right, small moments often lead to big things! Here's to another 11 years!
Happy 11th Anniversary to your company, Erin! It's always inspiring to hear business backstories like this.
