This speech by the leader of The New Popular Front in France, Jean-Luc Mélenchon, is so encouraging! He is advocating for us to have our time back - just imagine! Let's not produce more just for the sake of producing more (or more accurately, making the wealthy wealthier), let's decide what WE want to do with our time, even if it's simply do nothing. Members of PROJECT TIPPING POINT will recognise these themes from our coursework. We look at the mental infrastructures of growth, internalised capitalism, cultural hegemony and so much more. We are now taking enrolments for the third cohort of PROJECT TIPPING POINT beginning on the 23rd July, 2024. Anyone who applies will also receive a copy of our 'Glossary for the Appreciation of Life (A-K)'. Sign up here: https://lnkd.in/eXy-AP-c Use the code 2WAVE50 for a 50% discount. Finally! Some actual leadership and vision from the left 😭 how I've longed for this. If people only understood that this suicidal growth economy takes everything worthwhile - time, attention, nature, purpose, our very future - and mostly gives back cheap t-shirts, new laptops, infinite social media feeds, congested roads and pretend food. It's such a terrible bargain. Vive la France 🇫🇷. Hope to see this become a real movement. The future could be so much better.
Perhaps there is more to his thinking, but this little segment comes across as a very middle class choosing to 'paint and draw', and very Eurocentric. Yes, I know it was a French election, but why give fodder to those who oppose degrowth because they believe it to be provincially European.
Grow more trees and tax the rich. Then we can do this now. 😱

The demand for leisure time has been a theme in the socialist and labor traditions. For example, the song sung in 1912 by striking women textile workers (and by suffragettes), Bread and Roses: https://youtu.be/qYIHPj-3hg0
Love this! ❤️ I am a great believer in having moments or stretches of time without structure and constraints. It's that time which allows us to imagine possibilities, giving us clues as to what our true purpose and potential is.
Rarely, in recent times I have heard such words in the people engaged in politics. The people of France are lucky to have hiim, we are all inspired by these words.
