Always. Give. The compliment. I was having one of those days... You know, the kind where you tell yourself to take it one hour at a time and hope tomorrow will be better. I stopped at Wawa for gas and ran in for a water bottle. At checkout, an adorable older man, probably in his late 80s and reminding me of my grandpa, said, "Ma'am, I'm not trying to make out with you, but can I tell you something? You look lovely, and I LOVE your shoes." I laughed and thanked him. We exchanged a few other pleasantries, and as he was leaving, he said with a wink, "Ya know, you gotta be careful what you say these days. I’m glad you took it as it was intended." That interaction changed my day. I'm still smiling about it hours later. We're all going through things and have "those days" all too often. Compliment the person behind you in line when you love their outfit. Or the exhausted mom juggling three kids and handling a tantrum like a pro. Or the server who asks all the right questions and provides exceptional customer service. They need to hear it.
