In the last decade, the world has undergone a remarkable transformation. Our smartphones have become our go-to HD cameras, we have collectively faced and survived a pandemic, industries have evolved or closed down, careers have undergone drastic shifts, and new and unimaginable ways of making a living have emerged. And yet the definition of love still stands on the pillar of trust. 10 years ago, amidst the chaotic hustle and bustle of life, fate intervened and introduced me to someone who would forever alter the course of my existence. Our paths unexpectedly crossed during a serendipitous auto ride, and little did I know that this encounter would mark the beginning of a decade filled with profound love, personal growth, and unbreakable bonds. As the years passed, not only did our relationship flourish, but I also blossomed into the person I had always aspired to be. It is both fascinating and admirable how the right person, founded on a bedrock of trust and respect, can change us for the better and in such a positive way that you wouldn't have imagined yourself. From the moment we exchanged vows to the miraculous birth of our first child, from pursuing my dreams in the desired industry to weathering the darkest of days and basking in the brightest, my partner, my husband, and the father of our child has been my unwavering support through it all. While life has generally been kind to us, it has also presented its fair share of challenges, testing our resilience and commitment. Yet, in those moments of hardship, we clung to one another, finding solace and strength in our unbreakable bond. Today, as I reflect upon the past decade, my heart overflows with gratitude for the beautiful life we have created together. As Oprah once wisely remarked, "Surround yourself with only people who are going to lift you higher." I took that quote a step further by marrying the person who has constantly been the reason behind my every success and smile. While some may find this post unconventional for LinkedIn, I hope it serves as a reminder to others that choosing the right partner is the most crucial life decision one can make. Last Friday was my last day at Canon. A lot of emotions, but the biggest one is hope. Followed closely by excitement, anticipation & intrigue. With a strong dose of gratitude, nostalgia, love & reflection. After 23 years with the company & 35😲in the industry, the time was right. What an amazingly awesome ride. I'm not going to repeat what I said to my colleagues last week. Some of whom are like family to me. I'll be rooting like crazy for them to continue to grow & succeed! Retiring from corporate life was an extremely personal decision for me and my wife. We've learned all too often the past few years that life can be fleeting. The time is now to spend more time with family and friends. ⭐ More time traveling, enjoying the outdoors, taking pictures, making memories. ⭐ More time giving back and volunteering. ⭐ More time learning new things. ⭐ More time in the present, enjoying the journey. And more time being myself. As I think about what I'm going to do next, that's the key ingredient. There will be some new business initiative in my future. Tied to sales and marketing, because I LOVE that stuff. I've got too much energy not to do something. Whatever it is, it'll be me being my authentic self, doing things I like, helping other people, collaborating with folks I enjoy being around and following my best path. More on that some other time (like, when I figure it out!). What really hit me the last couple of weeks was the consistency of the comments from the people that know me best, people who I've had the honor of competing with for the better part of over two decades. Leadership, honesty, care, humor, support, collaboration were some of the descriptions used over and over again. So those are the traits I'm going to lean into going forward. Personally and professionally. Because life's too short to be someone you're not. 2024's gonna be wild!!! Here we go. #retirement #enjoythejourney #authenticity P.S. 🎉 Today, as I celebrate my 29th birthday, I'm taking a moment not just to reflect on the past, but to look forward with a renewed perspective. In the past, birthdays often prompted a review of personal and professional milestones, and more often than not, I found myself dwelling on what I felt were shortcomings rather than achievements. However, this year marks a significant shift in my mindset. I've come to a powerful realization that my current situation, in all its facets, is a direct result of my decisions. This understanding, rather than weighing me down, has empowered me. Whether it's my health, my relationship with family, friends, or God, or my Monthly Recurring Revenue (MRR) - if something isn't at the level I aspire it to be, it's a reflection of the choices I've made. This epiphany has been both liberating and motivating. Acknowledging our responsibility in shaping our lives and careers isn't about self-blame; it's about recognizing the control we have to make changes for the better. It's a source of energy, an acknowledgment that no matter the complexity of the challenge, there's always a path forward. This realization has brought me a profound sense of satisfaction and optimism. As I step into this new year of life, I'm more committed than ever to making decisions that align with my goals and values. Today is my 36th birthday. Since before I could legally drink, I had marked this day as my deadline to sell a company for $10m+ Well…it hasn’t happened. But I wouldn’t trade what we’ve been able to build up to this point for a $10m exit. There’s so much more upside in what we are building now. Yes, I have a number. Yes, I would sell or merge under the right circumstances. Yes, I would require the company be run under the practices of New American Capitalism. Yes, I’m fully prepared to die without selling this company. Getting the Big Bag was my only focus for most of my entrepreneurial career, but in the last five or six years, I’ve seen how powerful owning a company can be. If you run a company built on the values of New American Capitalism, you can be a force for good in your city, in your industry, in the world. You can provide the freedom of four day work weeks, PTO, and fair pay to your team. You can meaningfully lobby for political reform. You can build up entire communities. If you run a company built to last, I mean truly built to last, the momentum you can accumulate vs. a company built to flip, is incomparable. Thoughtful investment in your team, in every way possible… through pay, through PTO, through work schedule, through listening, through inclusion, through elevation, through workplace safety, through camaraderie… will pay greater dividends than any other investment in your business. We are going to build the Best Preroll Company in the World. I honestly believe it’s possible. But not without New American Capitalism. Continuous improvement applies to the lives we build for our employees, and investment in that regard is what will take us from a leader in our state, to a leader in the US, to a leader in the world. Today is our 25th anniversary. Do you want to know a secret? Nobody cares. Nobody cares about any company’s arbitrary birthday. That’s what we tell our clients when they want to do an ad celebrating their random age moment. It barely merits a LinkedIn post. Honestly, I don’t even know why you’re still reading this. No one cares how old you are. It’s merely a moment to stop and reflect on how far you’ve come and how far you need to go. It’s a milestone. So today we stop and grab our breath at our 25th milestone. To be honest, I never thought we’d make it to 25 years. If someone tells you that they knew their company would be around for decades, they’d be lying. Nail was forged by two guys squatting in an unheated office with borrowed computers. Every time we turned on a space heater to stave off frost-bitten toes, we would blow the circuit breaker for the entire floor. Classic start-up folk-lore. Our masterplan was to change the creative world in New England, one idea at a time. We believed if we did great work, everything else would take care of itself. Alas, we were totally wrong about the “everything taking care of itself” part. As it turns out, we are a business and businesses are complicated which is why you need business people. But we were right about one thing: doing great work. How? We stay curious. We adapt. We move forward. We worship no golden idols. And we don’t exist due to a single person. We exist due to countless contributions from many unique and special individuals that have made NAIL what it is today. We have been a bastion of collaboration from day one. It's why we’re not called Gross, Carmone & Beckett.  Phew. Have we made some mistakes along the way? Sure, our website’s URL is NAIL.cc.  I have no idea what the future will bring, but I do know we’ll be ready for it and we’re going to have fun doing it.

My 50th birthday is a milestone that comes with reflection. My gift to you on this prestigious occasion are some of the valuable lessons I’ve learned in my 50 years. ●The little things are easy to miss, but they are truly the big stuff. ●Choose relationships over being right, earning wealth, and gaining status. People are what matters. ●Laugh as often as possible. ●Quit saving spaces in your life for people who don’t want to show up. ●Reduce the things in your life that steal your joy. ●Rhythms of rest aren’t a luxury. They are a necessity. ●Someday, you’ll miss the clutter and chaos of raising little ones. ●Unforgiveness is like carrying around a dead body that brings decay to your own life. Bitterness from hard but necessary relationships requires regularly weeding the flower bed of your soul. ●The words you choose not to speak can not be misconstrued or used against you. ●Hurting people will hurt other people. It often has nothing to do with you. ●Replaying offenses in my mind will sour my mind. Replaying what’s true to myself will usher in peace. ●No experience is wasted if there’s a lesson learned. ●Kids most need to know they’re loved when they are acting the most unlovable. ●Sometimes, the strongest response to offer is a gentle approach. ●Memory making is the best gift to give. ●Look for and celebrate the tiny wins. Note the tiny wins on paper as evidence for future times you only feel losses. ●Moms should get IN the pictures and not just take them. ●Sometimes, the best way to deal with a bad day is to interrupt it with something fun. ●Sometimes, the only way to deal with a bad day is to just let it happen. I’m fifty and it seems strange that I’m just getting to know who I truly am, but I’m ready. I’m learning that I’m strong, powerful, resilient, determined, and so many more things that I’m proud to be.

It’s WeDiscover’s 4th birthday! 🎂 So I thought it would be a nice opportunity to look back over the last few years and share some things I have personally learnt. 1. Early hires will change your growth trajectory. Get this right and you will fly, get it wrong and you’ll be in a world of pain. 2. The highs and lows become less extreme over time. It’s sad to not experience as much joy for wins, but also good to not feel as down for losses. 3. Service businesses are great for the government, we’ll contribute close to £1m to HMRC in all the various taxes since we launched. 4. I get an incredible amount of happiness from seeing employees go through major life milestones with us (get married, buy a house, have children). 5. I’ve realised what I am good at, and not good at, and will shape my role to where I am most useful to the business. 6. I LOVE seeing our clients win. 7. Be careful with who you listen to. People have come to sensationalise everything they write to get cut-through. 8. Without a loving and supportive partner at home, none of this would be possible. 9. When I was younger I thought I was motivated by money, it turns out I’m motivated by freedom. 10. The people you spend time with (team, clients, partners) will make the day infinitely more enjoyable (choose them carefully). 11. Our most exciting years are ahead of us.
