The opening of our US office led by new MD Ed Price builds on City of London Corporation office presence in China, India and Belgium, enabling us to ground our work on financial and professional services across the UK, within a global context. The aim? Boost trade and augment our market share of global GDP. Growth in our UK economy will create countless jobs and generate much needed funding for public services. The Financial and Professional Services sector is more than 13% of the UK economy, it's the engine of it. Without access to finance, as a nation, we can't grow or compete. I will write more in the new year on this particular aspect of the Corporation’s unique and eclectic mix of services and products. For now, Merry Christmas Eve, eve.

Despite post-Brexit fears of a financial services exodus from London, the UK remains a key market in global finance and London is still rated as the world’s second financial hub after New York. Establishing a footprint in the US is a great move by The City of London Corporation and evidences that the UK-US economic corridor is strong and is projected to be even stronger in 2024. The Commission welcomes the Cooperation Agreement between the EU and China that was signed on 22 January. DG FISMA was represented by Deputy Director-General Alexandra Jour-Schröder and People’s Bank of China by Deputy Governor Xuan Changneng. 🇪🇺 🇨🇳   China and the EU jointly decided to further promote and enhance their communication and cooperation in the area of finance. Both sides agreed to establish a Working Group on Financial Cooperation, which will be co-chaired by the People’s Bank of China and by the DG FISMA. The Working Group will report to the co-chairs of the High-Level Economic Dialogue (HED).   The agreement follows the consensus of the leaders’ meetings between China and the EU on December 2022 and April 2023. The 10th China-EU High-Level Economic Dialogue was held in September 2023.

#Japan and The World Bank are spearheading efforts to embed the #QII Principles into infrastructure projects through the QII Partnership. Daiho Fujii, Deputy Vice-Minister of Finance for International Affairs at the Ministry of Finance - Japan, expressed the value of our work to promote private sector participation in infrastructure: "The QII Principles are now spreading beyond the World Bank. Notably, the QII Partnership has promoted the engagement of the private sector. The public sector alone cannot address multiple development challenges. It is critical to mobilize private capital, technology, and expertise. As a patriotic Canadian, this was my only course. The Bank is dominated by Communist Party members and also has one of the most toxic cultures imaginable. For the East to thrive under the next government more attention and support needs to be given to international trade and investment - we call for an effective regional trading platform to expand the East of England’s global footprint, activating inward investment opportunities and exporting incredible local products and services around the world. As noted by Lord Harrington, “Areas of the UK are best placed to identify their own sectors of strength, but central government needs to take an active role in supporting and endorsing local differentiation. Central government should do this by partnering with and promoting areas based on in-depth analysis of strengths and an understanding that not all sectors in all regions can attract central support.
