A new poll from the American Lung Association shows overwhelming support for the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)'s stronger soot standards. 78% of voters support the stricter limits on soot and 73% said that the new limits would have a positive impact on the health of families like theirs. "As EPA works on its to-do list including updating mercury and air toxics standards, setting carbon limits on power plants and updating the ozone national ambient air quality standards, the administration can be assured that the public supports strong action." Say yay for the U.S. EPA. This is what good governance looks like. A big win that benefits US ALL with a rule to sharply reduce #methane and other harmful pollutants and put human health and climate over oil & gas profits. Minimizing methane pollution will prevent continued harm to local communities and ecosystems while stimulating market investment and innovation. https://lnkd.in/g84FmWpf #CleanEconomy #ClimateAction Michael S. Although limits set by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) have helped prevent some of these emissions, many plants don’t have the necessary pollution controls installed. 👂 What were some of the things I heard at the Energy Conference Network's Carbon Tracking & Reporting in #houston? 1️⃣ We need quality and complete data, not only for #greenhousegas reporting but also to address super-emitter claims, #naturalgas certification, and transacting offsets for companies making commitments 2️⃣ The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) GHGRP methodology is outdated and inaccurate - we all know that. Operators need to be able to manage varying calculation and reporting protocols, including measurement-based emissions 3️⃣ #Datatransparency #dataintegrity #auditability #verification #traceability #controls ... if you don't have these in your current system and processes, you're falling behind 👇 Iconic Air (Michele Rowe is an absolute rockstar)

Check out how the US EPA is revising their particulate matter (PM) emissions limit for light-duty vehicle down to 0.5 g/mile (O.31 g/km). This new limit is several times lower than the limit currently in place and is expected to drive the introduction of gasoline particulate filter in this market. The move to this world's most stringent regulation for PM was supported by an analysis of the TRUE initiative based on road side remote sensing data collected by the state of Colorado. The authors discovered that PM emissions was the only polluant which saw an increase with more recent vehicle model years, coinciding with the uptake of Gasoline Direct Injection technologies. Fleet emissions monitoring is key to track the effectiveness of emission standards and design measures to fix potential loopholes. #airquality #remotesensing

Did you know that tightened air emission standards came into effect in New South Wales at the start of 2023, with the new Protection of the Environment Operations (Clean Air) Regulation 2022? This is an important step forward to take NSW regulatory framework on harmful air pollutants closer to the most stringent international standards. The improvements made to the regulation focus on applying tighter air emission standards for ageing plants and equipment, stricter limits and controls on volatile organic liquids in storage tanks, requiring cleaner and lower volatility petrol, and changes to the management of certain pollutants. The EPA has finalized regulations that will not only reduce greenhouse gas emissions but also significantly lower particulate matter (PM) limits, promoting public health and cleaner air for all. These updated standards, covering model years 2027–2032, mark a crucial step towards accelerating the adoption of zero-emission vehicles. By requiring substantial reductions in emissions across the vehicle fleet, we're paving the way for a more sustainable future. Of particular note is the reduction in PM limits, dropping from 3 mg/mile to an impressive 0.5 mg/mile across all test cycles. This change will necessitate the use of gasoline particulate filters, proven effective in global markets like the EU and China, to combat PM emissions—a major contributor to air pollution-related health issues. The EPA estimates that these changes could prevent thousands of premature deaths by 2055 and reduce respiratory and cardiovascular diseases, particularly benefiting communities near busy roadways. Kudos to the EPA for prioritizing cleaner air and healthier communities! Let's continue driving progress towards a more sustainable future together. #CleanAir #PublicHealth #Sustainability

We welcome today’s announcement from the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) setting new standards for emissions from cars and light trucks starting in model year 2027. Read our full statement: https://lnkd.in/gH6bQFhP This rule is an important step in the right direction and we continue to encourage the EPA to take further action to reduce transportation-related emissions. According to the EPA, the new standards will slash 7.2 billion metric tons of climate pollution, eliminating the equivalent of all tailpipe pollution for nearly four years, and prevent 2500 premature deaths, 5800 cases of asthma, and 110,000 lost work days.
