Of course, a hospital’s reach and impact extend beyond its walls and into the surrounding neighborhoods and communities. Each community may have different needs, and those needs can change. Whether providing transportation for patients to and from an appointment or hospital stay, offering education and employment opportunities, providing affordable housing — and so much more — all hospitals and health systems provide innumerable benefits to their communities. Tallaght University Hospital's Emergency Department (ED) is pioneering efforts to ensure inclusivity and accessibility for all patients. The establishment of a dedicated sensory room is one of the recent steps towards neurodiversity-friendly care. The sensory room provides a calming space, offering a respite from overwhelming stimuli. A recent survey conducted within the ED revealed overwhelmingly positive feedback from patients, indicating a notable increase in satisfaction levels since the implementation of neurodiversity-friendly initiatives. Patients reported feeling more understood and supported during their time in the ED. It's rare I watch or listen to a podcast and am inspired. Almost half a million Australians live with chronic wounds that are slow to heal. These include leg and foot ulcers, skin tears, and pressure sores. A team led by Associate Professor Wendell Cockshaw, a Senior Research Fellow in our Health Services Research Team, is investigating ways to innovate health service delivery, which will improve the lives of those with chronic wounds and bring the benefits of chronic wound science to patients. In our Understanding Chronic Wound Systems study, we aim to map current systems and practices, and investigate barriers and enablers for the prevention, identification, recording, and treatment of chronic wounds across UnitingCare Queensland businesses. This is a truly collaborative research project, working with consumers, carers, nurses and other healthcare practitioners to design practical systems to deliver chronic wound care to those who need it. Mass. General is a superb health system. From the video, it seems like they’re doing home health well. Several things are noteworthy: 1. Excellent Med. Care 2. Intensive schedule of visits 3. Link to system w technology 4. This man’s home remains “his home” w/o the hospital / equipment / supplies / ready medicines / postings etc dominating nurturing home space 5. Use of furniture placement rather than institutional looking fall prevention acoutremont & perhaps more. MEASUREMENT OF SUCCESS likely 1. Pt. Wellbeing 2. Falls 3. ED visits 4. Readmissions 5. Family wellbeing 6. Overall cost of care vs hospitalization. Many Homecare staff, for THEIR convenience overpower the familiar, nurturing HOME environment by moving the hospital into the home. Home has a medical value as well as an emotional one.
