A new International Energy Agency (IEA) report, Electricity Grids and Secure Energy Transitions, offers a first-of-its-kind take on the world’s power grids and provides key recommendations for policy makers, highlighting what is necessary in areas such as investment, regulation and planning. This special report also examines the urgent upgrades required not only to physical infrastructure but also to the way grids are planned and managed – quantifying the costs of delayed action. The grid is the backbone of the clean energy transition, and AutoGrid is leading the way with solutions for harnessing and orchestrating distributed energy at scale. Today's report from the IEA includes strong validation that demand side flexibility is essential for the energy transition: "Grids need to both operate in new ways and leverage the benefits of distributed resources, such as rooftop solar, and all sources of flexibility. This includes deploying grid-enhancing technologies and unlocking the potential of demand response and energy storage through digitalisation." At AutoGrid, we couldn't agree more.

National Grid electricity system operator (ESO) calls for ‘Decisive action’ on energy transition from Starmer and Miliband to begin within just two years or miss key targets. The ESO believes that the UK can achieve a net-zero energy system by 2050 with the Conservatives’ targets in place of decarbonising the grid by 2035 and banning new petrol and diesel car and van sales by the same date. With Labour intending to pull both of these dates forward to 2030 and the recent flurry of solar farms approvals perhaps the message is finally being heard by central government. #energy #nationalgrid #ESO #planning
