Pleased to have led the impact assessment on this important piece of work. The IA found that our preferred RIIO-3 framework for electricity transmission delivers substantial benefits compared to the continuation of the RIIO-2 regime. This is driven by a reduction in delays to the roll-out of transmission infrastructure and the realisation of cost efficiencies from competitive procurement with oversight from an Independent Technical Adviser and enhanced Ofgem monitoring. https://lnkd.in/ekeVN8jx

FERC has approved NERC’s revised ROP to identify and register unregistered IBRs connected to the Bulk-Power System by May 2026, addressing a reliability gap associated with the increasing integration of IBRs on the grid. The new Category 2 GO/GOP will apply to entities owning or operating IBRs with an aggregate nameplate capacity of 20 MVA and above and are connected to 60 kV and above. 🔍 Impact: 📈~14% increase in visibility of existing IBRs. ✅~98% of IBRs will comply NERC Reliability Standards, on par with conventional resources. ⚡This strengthens the reliability and resilience of our electric grid. NERC’s regional entities include Midwest Reliability Organization (MRO), Northeast Power Coordinating Council (NPCC), ReliabilityFirst (RF), SERC Reliability Corporation (SERC), Texas Reliability Entity (Texas RE), Western Electricity Coordinating Council (WECC). For example, in the four regions of the Eastern Interconnection (the power grid covering the eastern United States) there is a standard to coordinate how to relieve transmission when the system is at risk of overloading from high electricity demand.
