EU has an ambition to become climate neutral by 2050, boost the economy through green technology, create sustainable industry and transport, and cut pollution. Interconnected and stable electricity grids are the backbone of a well-functioning energy market and key enablers of this Green Transition.   Europe’s power networks are confronted with new and significant challenges. They will need to serve growing demand linked to clean mobility, heating and cooling, electrification of industry and the kickstart of low-carbon hydrogen production. As a result of these trends, Europe’s network must rapidly upgrade and expand. In particular, distribution grids are bound to grow and change to connect large amounts of decentralized renewable generation.   It is fascinating to be part of this #greentransition journey at Ensto. To transition to net zero carbon emissions by 2050, we would need more than USD 9.2 trillion in annual investments in energy and land-use systems. This is a significant investment, but it is essential to avoid the worst impacts of climate change. EODev winner of ADEME’s "H2 Technology Building Blocks" call for projects 🙏 The SGPI (General Secretariat for Investment) has confirmed an R&D grant to EODev to support the development of high-power electro-hydrogen power generators. Sat down for dinner with Nick Wayth CEng FEI FIMechE, CEO of Energy Institute and a few other colleagues from the energy industry, discussing #hydrogen, #EV and the energy transition. Some of the interesting views I picked up: 1. Hydrogen will be the mainstay of the long-haul transport sector 2. EV will continue growing for the passenger transport 3. Some NOCs will have a tough time balancing between returning value to shareholders (ie their own government) and appeasing their funders’ sustainability demands, given fossil fuel’s higher ROI compared to NE’s 4. Specialist vs Generalist debate - some established E&P companies are moving into further specializations (toughest - deepwater and hostile interiors and easiest - shale), while some choose to do everything in-house (RE, digital, niche services and everything in between). Which is the correct strategy? Thanks to Azman Nasir of EIC (Energy Industries Council) and Peter Godfrey of Energy Institute for inviting - it was definitely an evening well-spent! #sustainability #energy #makanmakanmakan
