🔥 Absolutely love this post! 🔥 Being a first-generation student, my experience playing baseball at the community college level paved the way for my Division 1 aspirations, my Bachelor's degree, and even a career in professional baseball. Now, I'm passionate about supporting and advocating for community college student-athletes. That's why I pursued my Masters in College Counseling and Student Development – to give back to students aiming for higher education and athletic success. When I think about the reason California Community Colleges and Santa Ana College means so much to our students, community, alum and to me personally, I think about the purpose around our mission to empower the most talented individuals.
Santa Ana College Alum C.J. Wilson and former Angels Professional Baseball player and former Don player--awarded the California Junior College Co-Player of the Year award and I had a fun moment connecting a few years ago during Santa Ana College's 100th celebration.
Seeing moments like this again remind me of love of the game of life and higher education and why it all matters so very much. C.J. Wilson

Pictured is a photo of Old Main and Ashurst Auditorium. I grew up in Flagstaff and went to NAU. Old Main was the icon of the campus.
But Ashurst is where I took piano lessons in the fourth grade!
Yes, I could play the piano.
But when you’re learning to play the piano, you make lots of mistakes – that’s expected because you’re the learner. You don’t worry about it because you’re getting better even though your mistakes sound a bit rough.
No mistakes, no improvement.
It’s like that in business and in life. We make mistakes and hopefully learn from them.
However, when someone on your team makes a mistake, what is your response?
Good questions will give you far more insight into the person and unlock their potential. You don’t point out how rough it sounds since most people already know that! You ask the right questions to evoke self-discovery.
Self-discovery is where the real learning takes place.
Claude Levi-Strauss said, “The wise man doesn’t give the right answers, he poses the right questions.”
We ask great questions at Convene...

I spent my 3 years junior high at Rosaryhill School !
I am forever grateful to the school for the transformative impact it has had on my life.

It makes sense that a graduate program that focuses on sports performance, emergency response and health is, itself, fast-paced and demanding, with clear and accelerated rewards. Learn more about the Master of Science in Athletic Training program at Radford University here!

"Everything ranks below 'are you breathing or not?'"
I recently had the opportunity to attend a keynote by professional fisherman, John Hoyer Wisconsin Lutheran College. Hoyer is the only angler with three National Walleye Tour Championship first-place finishes. He is also coming off his first Angler of the Year title.
His working career started with cutting the grass and shoveling snow at church. After an unsuccessful stint at North Dakota State University for civil engineering, he turned his summer job of carpentry into a full-time profession. Eighteen years later, he left that steady income and took a leap of faith to pursue his dream of becoming a full-time professional angler on TV.
Given all Hoyer's successes, my biggest takeaway had nothing to do with his accolades. Instead, it was a personal philosophy he shared with us that he developed while his late mother was going through cancer treatments:
"Everything ranks below 'are you breathing or not?'"
That phrase underscores the paramount importance of life itself over all other concerns or priorities. It's a potent reminder to prioritize well-being, to cherish the gift of life, and to seize each moment with purpose.
Reflect on this truth. Embrace its power. Let it ignite your passion and drive. Focus on what truly matters - your core values. Because in the end, being truly alive is the ultimate achievement.
