The election results in UK have given a landslide victory to Labour Party. With 412 seats, it has given the Conservatives, one of their biggest defeats. But, can it it be said, that right wing is on wane in UK. A careful analysis of the polls reflect that Labour has just got 34% of total vote polled while Conservative with 24%, LibDem 12% and Reformists 14% all put together become a powerful rightwing combine. https://lnkd.in/dKPp_nAS THE UNEQUAL DISTRIBUTION OF UK ELECTIONS. I was really shocked by the huge unproportional distribution between the total votes received and the number of parliamentary seats: ·      Labour, 34% of total votes lead to 412 seats. ·      Conservative, 24% lead to 121 seats. ·      Others, 43% lead to 117 seats. At the most recent legislative elections in France, the misalignment between votes received and seats was less severe, though the coalition with the most votes came just in third place in terms of seats. ·      Left-wing Alliance, 26% of votes lead to 188 seats. ·      Centrist Alliance, 25% of votes lead to 161 seats. ·      Right Alliance, 37% of votes lead to 142 seats. ·      Others, 12% of votes lead to 86 seats.

Just a reminder for those living in mayoral Combined Authorities in England - as the media doesn’t seem to have particularly been mentioning this: “Following the Elections Act 2022, metro mayors and PCCs will be elected using the first past the post system (FPTP) for the first time. Previously, these roles were elected under the supplementary vote (SV) system in which voters could express two preferences. This system required candidates to appeal across party lines for second preference votes from supporters of other candidates.” It apparently remains offensive to some that a winning electoral result might require that a majority of voters have actually voted for it; or the adoption of political positions that drive towards consensus and action rather than division, oversimplification, and often policy ineffectiveness as a result. So, if you want to avoid what you really don’t want this time - it’s back to voting with your head and not your heart in these elections rather than being about real choice. A few thoughts from us at BidVantage on the results of the local elections and what this might mean for procurement, bidding and the general election.

Something doesn’t add up! Why did the the local Labour Party switch candidate from the very able Tess Gandy? On the door step the new candidate isn’t going down as well as I suspect the local party are wanting. “Too removed” …. “She’s from London isn’t she?” … “who is the candidate?” Is what I’m hearing on the door step. I’m also very aware that the MRPs (tactical polling sites) aren’t playing out in reality. The poll outcome is based on the last GE result and predicts Labour burying the Conservatives, but with Labour’s vote naturally in decline here in Suffolk and a surge in 2023 at the District elections of the Greens and LibDems then what they say & Suffolk Coastal’s reality - are quite quite different. You see Labour don’t stand in some local wards in local elections. They only really feature in Felixstowe & part of Woodbridge. So with all to play for and the echo chamber of social media being limited then there’s every reason that Tory voters who want a change will move to the Liberal Democrat’s because voting Labour is truly a step too far! And that’s a pretty healthy place to be for the LibDems considering our position in the Council. With the GE only 11 days away there’s plenty of time for anything to happen! And with a strong local campaign with a dedicated Candidate then I’m feeling confident that all those many villages and six towns may have something to say that will thrill everyone - well everyone but Labour! As the UK prepares for snap general elections amidst growing voter discontent with traditional parties, the Greens aim to gain ground. But what sets them apart from the rest? Last week, Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has suddenly announced early general election which is set to end the Conservative Party's 14 years in power. Labour is set to lead. However, voters are growing increasingly disillusioned with traditional parties, feeling that they no longer represent them. ”Labour has "lost their way", says Green deputy leader Zack Polanski. And while the visions of the Greens might often align with those of Labour and other anti-Conservative parties, they are increasingly drawing lines between them. From proposing a more ambitious climate agenda and calling for rejoining the EU, to having a stronger stance on Israel and Palestine, they are offering fresh alternatives to the electorate and true representation. Ros Taylor spoke to party activists about the growing differences between the two parties and how increasing numbers of Green councillors put their policies into practice at the local level.
