Many sectors including energy, carbon markets and #financialservices are undergoing a transformation with the rise of #tokenisation, which involves converting assets into digital tokens on a blockchain. This innovation is revolutionising traditional market structures by enhancing liquidity and boosting investor confidence. This article delves into tokenisation in energy and #carbonabatement, its effects on #fungibility, and the promising future of a fungible carbon tonne. A particular focus is given to the pioneering technology developed by Empati and its subsidiary, Carbon Alpha, which is setting new standards in the realm of carbon abatement through the creation of standardised, tradeable #carbon tokens. From ripples to waves: The transformational power of tokenizing assets — McKinsey & Company "Tokenized financial assets are moving from pilot to at-scale deployment. Adoption is not yet widespread, but financial institutions with blockchain capabilities in place will have a strategic advantage ... If we were to design the future of financial services, we would arguably include many of the features of tokenized digital assets: 24/7 availability; instant global collateral mobility; equitable access; composability, thanks to a common technology stack; and managed transparency. ... The digitization of assets seems even more inevitable now as the technology matures and demonstrates measurable economic benefits." Yes, tokenization represents a potential multi-trillion-dollar opportunity but... there are serious issues to resolve before tokenization becomes mainstream. High on the issue list is intra-chain transactions. Smart contracts create atomic dependable transactions as long as everyone is on the same chain. The problem being, there will be no one chain to rule them all. Clients wishing to swap assets across chains will be the norm. Bridges and #wrapping are not a solution as bridges were responsible for over $2B in hacks last year alone. The ability to orchestrate #atomic transactions using multiple smart contracts on multiple blockchains is vital and it's a capability the Accumulate blockchain makes possible. Accumulate is not just another smart contract #blockchain but rather a #data, #identity , and authority focused blockchain that works with smart contract platforms to enable #multichain transactions. https://lnkd.in/gS3GX6uJ. 🔍 **From Ripples to Waves: The Transformational Power of Tokenizing Assets** 🌊 I highly recommend reading McKinsey's latest report, which delves into the fascinating world of asset tokenization. The article "From Ripples to Waves: The Transformational Power of Tokenizing Assets" explores how this innovative technology is reshaping the financial market and unlocking new investment opportunities. 💡 Asset tokenization involves converting real-world assets, such as real estate or artwork, into digital tokens. This process not only enhances liquidity and investment accessibility but also offers greater transparency and security in transactions. McKinsey highlights several key aspects: 1. **Increased Investment Accessibility**: Tokenization allows valuable assets to be divided into smaller units, making them more accessible to a broader range of investors. 2. **Enhanced Liquidity**: Digital tokens can be traded more easily and quickly than traditional assets, providing greater liquidity. 3. **Transparency and Security**: Blockchain technology ensures that all transactions are transparent and secure, reducing the risk of fraud. This article is a must-read for anyone interested in the future of finance and investment. The potential impact of asset tokenization is immense, and it's exciting to see how it will shape the industry in the coming years. 📖 Check out the full report here: [McKinsey - From Ripples to Waves: The Transformational Power of Tokenizing Assets](https://lnkd.in/dX6wxqvM) #Finance #Tokenization #Blockchain

Reading the latest McKinsey report titled "From ripples to waves: The transformational power of tokenizing assets", I reiterate with much optimism that those who have invested early in building robust #blockchain infrastructure are now poised to lead the charge as #tokenization moves from #pilotprojects to #largescale #implementation. Here are some insightful takeaways from this paper - One of the most striking analysis of this paper is the #strategic advantage held by #financialInstitutions with well established blockchain capabilities in the tokenized assets space. In the section on the assets for fastest #adoption the paper delves into the following #financialassets – ➡Cash and deposits ➡Bonds and exchange-traded notes (ETNs) ➡Mutual funds and exchange-traded funds (ETFs) ➡Loans and securitization The explanation behind identifying these asset classes for faster adoption being: ➡They offer proven return on investment (ROI) in existing use cases. ➡These asset classes already have existing scale, which makes them more attractive for tokenization. Moreover, the article also presents an interesting observation on waves of tokenization adoption, with the first wave driven by the aforementioned asset classes. It explains a combination of factors that make them more suitable for early tokenization: ➡Larger market value ➡Higher friction along the value chain in current processes ➡Less mature traditional infrastructure ➡Lower liquidity in some cases Clearly, the #feasibility of tokenization is highest for asset classes with lower technical complexities. Starting with these asset classes, the industry can build momentum, demonstrate the value of tokenization, and pave the way for broader adoption across other asset classes in subsequent waves. #innovation #tokenization #digitalassets #blockchain #web3
