New Shifts in Investment Strategies: A Beacon for Climate Action? In a groundbreaking move, New York State has taken a bold step towards redefining its investment ethos, setting a precedent that could ripple across the nation. While not fully divesting from ExxonMobil, the decision to restrict investments in one of the giants of the fossil fuel industry marks a significant stance on climate responsibility and investment ethics. This strategic pivot reflects a growing acknowledgment of the crucial role financial mechanisms play in steering the global agenda towards sustainability and environmental stewardship. It sends a clear message: the path to a sustainable future is not just paved by policy and innovation but also by where we choose to direct our financial resources. As environmental advocates and professionals, this development prompts us to reflect on the broader implications of investment strategies in the fight against climate change. It challenges us to consider how we, too, can influence positive environmental outcomes through responsible investment practices and corporate governance. The decision by New York State serves as a reminder that every dollar invested in industries contributing to environmental degradation is a vote against our planet's health. Conversely, every dollar redirected towards sustainable, renewable, and clean energy sources is a step towards a healthier planet. Let's use this moment to engage in deeper discussions on how strategic investment decisions can act as powerful levers for climate action. It's time to critically assess our own investment portfolios, corporate policies, and personal choices in the context of environmental sustainability and social responsibility. As we continue to navigate the complexities of climate change, let this be a call to action for individuals, corporations, and governments to reevaluate their investment strategies in favor of a greener, more sustainable future. #ClimateAction #SustainableInvesting #EnvironmentalStewardship #CorporateResponsibility

🌤 The climate adaptation finance gap is REAL. Even though it seems like everyday, I see a new climate fund announced on LinkedIn, we’re still way behind. 🌲 Adaptation finance lags in part because it’s so hard to understand. I’m so lucky that at 60 Decibels I get to work with impact investors like Acumen, Catalyst Fund, and Mercy Corps Ventures that are showing what is possible in resilience investing, and contributing to closing the gap. 💡 These funds have been thought partners to me as we’ve designed new ways to measure climate resilience impacts, and inspired me to write this article in ImpactAlpha showcasing their innovative work to incorporate resilience into their impact measurement. Check out more on our climate measurement here: https://lnkd.in/e9b9F85x Huge thanks to Christopher Wayne, MSc, Malika Anand, and Lillian Alexander for partnering with us and contributing to this article! #impactmeasurement #climateresilience #impactinvesting

Let me share a remarkable real-life example of socially responsible investing (SRI) that truly highlights its importance: The Rockefeller Brothers Fund, established in 1940 by the five sons of John D. Rockefeller, took an interest in global warming in 1986. However, it significantly intensified its focus on sustainable development and climate change from 2005 onwards. Each year, the fund dedicates approximately $15 million in grants to support climate change solutions on a global scale. The leaders of the Rockefeller Brothers Fund took a notable step and matched their programmatic priorities with their investment strategy, ensuring their investments reflected their values and goals. Not only did this decision align with the values of environmentally conscious investors, but it also sent a powerful message to the industry, encouraging a shift towards more sustainable practices. By supporting companies prioritizing environmental, social, and governance factors, SRI promotes sustainable development, addresses global challenges, and shapes a better future for generations to come. What steps has your bank or lending institution taken to practice Socially Responsible Investing? I look forward to your comments. #ESGinvesting #greenfinancing #sustainablefinance #investing #greenerworld #climatechange #climatechanges #climatefintech #sustainable #sustainability

💭 Ever wondered how climate-tech companies are disrupting industries with new technologies, or how emissions measurement models are being used to forecast a company's potential to bend the emissions curve to net zero? 🎧 To find out, tune in to the Good Future’s podcast episode, hosted by John Treadgold, to hear what our Senior Partner Clara Barby has to say about climate-led investing…
This is one episode not to miss - Just Climate is a leading example of how to shift heavy-weight institutional capital to decarbonise hard-to abate sectors. Clara Barby is Senior Partner at Just Climate, which was spun-out of Generation Investment Management, the sustainable investment firm launched by Al Gore. She's also worked at leading impact investment firms Acumen and Bridges, and, she steered progress at both the IMP and the ISSB. In this conversation she offers a compelling case for the power of ‘climate-led’ investing to not only revolutionise high-emissions industries, but also its potential to deliver competitive returns to a stable of institutional investors. Just Climate closed a $US1.5 billion funding round last year for its Industrial Climate Solutions Strategy, and more recently announced the launch of its Natural Climate Solutions Strategy. I really enjoyed this one, we go deep on the fund’s unique investment model, and Clara offers valuable insights into the evolution of carbon accounting, and how the emissions avoidance potential of a company can be modelled with (almost) as much accuracy and signal as you’d expect from a financial model. Enjoy! And let me know what you think...
