Last semester for my module Global Communications Strategies, I analysed the marketing strategy of Barbie 2023 directed by Greta Gerwig in the form of research blogs. With this, I did a SWOT analysis of the objectives, messaging, audience and implementation of the campaign. I really enjoyed writing these research blogs and understanding the complexity and innovative campaign to promote an already established brand. WHY THIS MATTERS Library marketers have a tremendous opportunity to help their customers succeed. However, this is often clouded by a misunderstanding of marketing by their leadership, boards, and elected officials, and they spend time chasing the expectations of those stakeholders, ending in frustration and mediocre results. By going all-in applying the lessons from Donald Miller ‘s book “Building a StoryBrand” at Spokane Public Library—-having leadership read the book, brandscripting everything, and changing the library’s language to focus on their customers as the heroes—-Alina and Amanda gave us a practical plan so we can drop our stress levels and enjoy success in the profession we’re all so passionate about.
