According to CIEE Postdoctoral Scholar Miriam Aczel, Ph.D. and Associate Director Dr. Therese Peffer, more resilient and inclusive regulations can advance #CommunityMicrogrids in California—and beyond. "Community microgrids have the potential to revolutionize #energy systems, bolster resilience, and enhance #sustainability," write the researchers in a recent paper published in Frontiers. Washington's Bold Goals Action Group has made a significant stride in the bioeconomy sector. The group has released 40 Bold Actions to Accelerate at ABLC 2024, which outlines specific actions that must be accomplished by industry, financiers, and governments to achieve ambitious Net Zero defossilization goals set by governments and corporations in recent years. With #Science, #Innovation and #Technology underpinning (in various combinations) every business and sector, it was particularly fruitful to have a large #roundtable with Tilson,Mphathi Manyoni, Chair of the National Advisory Council on Innovation (NACI) which serves the Departement of Science and Innovation, and his team lead by CEO Mlungise Cele. We brought colleagues from the British High Commission in South Africa and our business members in the field, Turner & Townsend Khonology Mitochondria Energy Systems Yellow Door Energy Innovate UK KTN Loice Alusala to name a few. Key take outs: -More investment is needed in #researchanddevelopment -#JobsInGreenHydrogen has the potential to stave off job losses in the #coaltransition -There is unlimited opportunity for SA society to benefit from #hydrogeneconomy , #electricvehicles industry -#PolicyReform must move faster to keep up with innovation and beware of over cautious and ultimately crippling regulation - #EaseOfDoingBusiness affects this space greatly ito high costs (facilities, infrastructure and electricity challenges) which increases the #costofinnovation -We need to share more of the #goodstories and successes whilst tackling the challenges and #drivingchange Thanks to Snaid & Morris Inc. for hosting us! 🇪🇺 The European Union targets for #decarbonisation depend to a relevant extent on #hydrogen imports from outside the Union. ⚠️ Care must be taken to avoid any form of "energy colonialism" ✍🏼 Rafael Cossent Arín and Timo Gerres, PhD have supported the European Parliament by analysing EU #greenhydrogen strategy’s alignment with the Policy Coherence for Development (PCD). They assess its support for African partner countries in achieving their Sustainable Development Goals (#SDGs), analysing partnership agreements with 🇳🇦Namibia and 🇪🇬Egypt, as well as considering 🌍Africa’s energy transition status and uncertainties in the global #renewablehydrogen trade. 🎯 Policy recommendations emphasise the need for a stronger, long-term EU commitment to safeguard the renewable hydrogen export industry’s #sustainability and adopt a more comprehensive approach to SDGs in partnership agreements.
