NEW RELEASE: 2nd Edition of the Lower Order Road Design Guideline The Institute of Public Works Engineering Australasia, Queensland Northern Territory (IPWEA-QNT) is proud to announce the release of the 2nd Edition of our Lower Order Road Design Guideline. The First Edition of the Lower Order Road Design Guideline was released in 2016 and has been extremely popular and widely adopted by the public works civil engineering sector across Queensland and beyond. The lower order road network is estimated at over 70% of the Queensland Local Government road network and also represents a significant portion of the State Government road network. This Guideline has been developed to help provide more cost-effective design solutions for lower order roads. In the Second Edition we now provide guidance for traffic volumes up to 250 vehicles per day and design speeds up to 110km/hr. There are numerous other topics that have been included in this edition based on feedback and requests from our Review Committee. IPWEA-QNT is indebted to the tireless efforts of our Review Committee in particularly to Tony Gallagher (Chair) and Rodney Moss of Harrison Infrastructure Group. This update would not have been possible without their efforts and we thank them for their contribution. We also have a 1 Day course on Managing Risks on Lower Order Roads which has been updated to include new content from the 2nd Edition. For more information visit our website. Any questions relating to this publication, our Professional Development or technical products and services please contact Jesper, GM Stakeholder Engagement & Business Development at IPWEA Queensland & Northern Territory (IPWEA-QNT). Architectural Designer and Copywriter|Expert Customer Support Representative |Solution-Oriented Civil Engineer. let's discuss how to collectively actualise your dreams
The Impending Disaster: A World Without Civil Engineers Imagine a world without the guiding hand of civil engineers—a world where infrastructure crumbles, transportation grinds to a halt, and communities are left vulnerable to the whims of nature. Such a scenario paints a stark picture of chaos and disarray, highlighting the indispensable role that civil engineers play in shaping and safeguarding our modern civilization. In this article, we explore the dire consequences of a world without civil engineers and underscore the critical importance of their contributions to society. Infrastructure Decay and Dysfunction: In the absence of civil engineers, infrastructure projects would languish in a state of disrepair, subjecting communities to a litany of safety hazards and logistical nightmares. Bridges would deteriorate, roads would buckle, and buildings would succumb to structural deficiencies, posing grave risks to public safety and economic stability. Without the expertise of civil engineers to assess, design, and maintain infrastructure systems, the fabric of society would unravel, plunging entire regions into a state of perpetual crisis. Transportation Gridlock and Isolation: The intricate web of transportation networks that sustains global commerce and connectivity would unravel without the guiding hand of civil engineers. Roads and highways would become impassable, railways would falter, and airports would descend into chaos, impeding the movement of people and goods on a monumental scale. Communities would be isolated, economies would stagnate, and essential services would falter under the weight of logistical gridlock. The absence of efficient transportation infrastructure would cripple productivity, exacerbate inequalities, and undermine the very foundations of social cohesion. Environmental Degradation and Resource Depletion: Civil engineers play a pivotal role in promoting environmental sustainability and mitigating the impact of human activities on the natural world. Without their expertise, environmental degradation would accelerate unchecked, as unchecked development ravages delicate ecosystems and exhausts finite resources. Water resources would be contaminated, air quality would deteriorate, and habitats would vanish beneath the relentless tide of urban sprawl. The absence of sustainable practices would exact a heavy toll on future generations, condemning them to inherit a world scarred by environmental catastrophe. #part1
