Becker's Hospital Review published a list of hospitals patients are most likely to recommend in every state using Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (#HCAHPS) data from CMS.
CMS' recommended hospital star rating is based on patients' responses to the question, "Would you recommend this #hospital to your friends and family?"
Eight hospitals in Montana made the list. How many of their techniques are in place - or could be adapted - for your organization?
1. For patients - prompts for questions to ask - St. Vincent Healthcare
Some #patients don’t know what question to ask. Others are hesitant, for a variety of reasons. These prompts help make communication a two-way street.
2. Physician profiles that encourage connections - Clark Fork Valley Hospital
Emotional value is created when you find something in common with the person taking care of you. One physician, Dr. Culmer, nails it with personal interests that are popular with many people.
3. Simple, fast, and free greeting card - Logan Health
Help family and friends act on their best intentions. Greeting cards can be a pleasant distraction in a patient’s day.
4. A welcome message - Great Falls Hospital
The Orthopedics Division at Great Falls Hospital crafted a welcome message that gives patients more reasons to choose them.
5. Give job applicants a reason to choose you - Providence St. Patrick Hospital Diagnostic Imaging
Values, teamwork, benefits, career advancement. All in the words of future colleagues. So well done and easy to put together.
Links are in the comments. You’re all set for the next time someone asks: “Anyone got an idea?”
Which idea resonates for you?
1. Prompts for questions patients should consider.
2. Clinician profiles that create connections.
3. Being able to send a greeting card to a friend in hospital.
4. A welcome message from a division.
5. Job culture and benefits in the words of future colleagues.
