I was listening to an update from my team today with a big smile across my face, and it got me thinking on the drive way home...
"If a tree falls in a forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound?"
Something similar is true in the workplace isn't it?
The team have worked tirelessly, over months of hard effort and tough coaching. They aren't far from hitting their goals. It will be a significant milestone with tangible impact. But what if they don't celebrate this achievement, did it really happen? How will anyone know, or notice, or care?
The thought might be a stretch, but much like that fallen tree, I have come to understand the importance that accomplishments need an audience. They deserve a spotlight that not only acknowledges the hard work but also magnifies the resonance of success. Why? Because celebrating success serves as a catalyst for motivation, unity, and continued excellence.
And not just the huge success that come occasionally. Actually it is the small successes along the journey that need the most celebration.
I have found celebration as the ripple effect. When you gather your team to applaud a victory, you create a shared memory that fuels the drive for future triumphs. You showcase a culture that values each step towards progress, fostering a sense of pride and commitment among your colleagues; locally and more broadly in time.
Whether it's a simple toast, a heartfelt shout-out, or a full-blown celebration, make make some noise about your achievements.
... it is certainly what I tell my team anyway!
Oh, and we can thank the M6's 2h commute tonight for the time to ponder this musing !! 🍻
