Last week the Hunger Funding Gap Report of 2024 was released, and as expected, the numbers related to the food insecurity in the world were, well not at all positive… The report stated that only 35% of appeals for countries facing crisis levels of hunger were met in 2023. This means that in a world with abundance of food, a staggering number of 281.6 million people are being food insecure or experiencing hunger! In December 2024, I visited Akabo, a fragile county in the Republic of South Sudan, which is currently experiencing the most severe food insecurity in decades. Here, the majority of the population is experiencing emergency (IPC Phase 4) acute food insecurity – just like the Hunger Funding Gap Report describes – and the people there are depending on food handout to survive, and where most survive on 1 meal a day (after food handouts!). “Why?” You might ask. Well it is mainly due to heavy floods and unusual heavy rainfall (caused by climate change) that are destroying cultivated land and making accessibility near to impossible, combined with conflict. Oxfam Denmark, Oxfam in South Sudan and our national partner @CIDOSouthSudan is with funding from Norad - Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation trying to combat food insecurity in areas of South Sudan (amongst 5 other vulnerable countries). Read about two of the amazing women I met, who are participants of the program and how they through unconditional cash have been able to start small businesses and feed their families. 🌍 #ClimateChange is hitting Zambia hard, not with floods, but with frequent droughts leading to widespread hunger and poverty. 💧 "Chimfunshi is struggling to provide a consistent supply of food and water to the animals in its care..it’s not just sanctuary animals that are impacted by worsening weather conditions. Chimfunshi staff struggle to feed their own families and the sanctuary is constantly looking for ways to help alleviate their food security challenges. All this shortage of water and food is leading to an increase in prices, which is causing great difficulties for the population and also for the sanctuary, as we depend on external donations to meet our needs - Peggy Motsch, Executive Director at @chimfunshiwildlifeorphanagetrust 🌿 Although we try our hardest to forge the path of sustainable agriculture, Climate change has become a problem that we cannot solve on our own. With a record low water level of river Kafue in over 40 years, the major source of water in the area around Chimfunshi, our situation does not get easier. The reality is that we still cannot provide enough to completely avoid water and food scarcity but we believe that with your help, our future can look much brighter. 🔆 🌳💚 Chimfunshi needs you now more than ever! Your donations help us alleviate the pressure of climate change in our local community and we need your support. The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, adopted by all United Nations Member States in 2015, provides a shared blueprint for peace and prosperity for people and the planet, now and into the future. At its heart are the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which are an urgent call for action by all countries - developed and developing - in a global partnership. Food insecurity has been identified as a critical health issue among older persons. Food insecurity is rapidly increasing among older persons by 12% and the most affected, are those found within grassroots communities in developing countries. In line with SDG 2: ZERO HUNGER [creating a world free of hunger by 2023], Azar Initiative aims to feed 500 older persons within rural communities in Abuja, Nigeria. The project aims to provide support to ease hunger by providing nutritious staple food items for the poorest and most vulnerable older persons in December 2023. You can make your donations by clicking on the link: https://lnkd.in/dCfh4gHR We are also accepting volunteers, register your interest: https://lnkd.in/d5Y8k9Hd #nohungryelderly #elderlylove #healthyeating # azarinitiative

Everybody must come together to solve the hunger crises . Action Against Hunger emphasizes that that there are multiple, major drivers of hunger threatening progress, including: poverty; inequality; conflict and displacement; climate change; inadequate agricultural policies; and poor governance and weak infrastructure. Without a multidimensional approach, hunger will persist. In order to achieve the ambitious goal of ending hunger by 2030, the international community must exert stronger political will and mobilize more resources. The number of people suffering from hunger in the world is rising not only because of the surge in conflicts, but also—and above all else—because hunger is not a global political priority. You too can help the Lagos Food Bank reach more families amidst this hunger crisis by partnering with us. If you wish to be a part our food relief intervention and preparation, kindly donate via Bank Transfer to Account Name: LAGOS FOOD BANK INITIATIVE 0463977946 - GTB 1016014957 - ZENITH BANK 1020057249 - UBA 0106793890- Union Bank 0002221706- Standard Chartered For GTB account holders you can donate using USSD CODE by dialing *737* 35 *amount* 9222 # (i.e. *737* 35 *2000* 9222 ). #NOTALAGOSSTATEPROJECT #lagosfoodbankinitiative #sdgs #unitednations #sustainabledevelopmentgoals #socialimpact #socialresponsibility #sustainability #sdg1 #sdg2 #communitydevelopment #climateaction #lagosfoodbankintiative #charity #Africa #zerohunger #poverty #stophunger #zerohunger #charity #childhunger#ngo #agenda2030 #obamaleaders

CEO of Rise Against Hunger Africa | Working with education and nutrition hand in hand | We aim to end child hunger in SA | Offering sponsorship and volunteer packages | Building sustainable communities
Nestled in the vibrant landscape of Gauteng lies the Place of Hope farm, a symbol of transformation and nurture. As Thompson tells us, this farm, established with the support of Rise Against Hunger Africa, is more than just a source of fresh spinach and tomatoes; it's a cornerstone in the battle against child hunger. Today, the reality for many children in the region is a daily struggle with hunger and no means to overcome it. This challenge impacts their growth, learning, and potential. Place of Hope farm stands as a beacon in this struggle, supplying nutritious vegetables to nine Early Childhood Development (ECD) centres. This partnership between Rise Against Hunger Africa and Place of Hope Farm is addressing immediate nutritional needs but also sowing the seeds for a healthier, more hopeful future. Through this sustained intervention, the vision is clear: a future where every child has access to the nutrition they need to thrive. The farm isn't just cultivating spinach; it's cultivating hope, resilience, and a pathway to a hunger-free future for the children of Gauteng. Will you join us in eradicating hunger? https://lnkd.in/dRxAKyMj #EradicateHunger #Community #RiseAgainstHungerAfrica #ItStartsWithAMeal #HopeFarm

Water 4 Mercy - Ending Thirst, Hunger and Poverty with Israel’s Innovative & Advanced Solar, Water and Agricultural Solutions
In many parts of Africa, access to clean water and nutritious food remains a constant struggle. This scarcity has devastating consequences, leading to malnutrition, disease, and a vicious cycle of poverty. At Water4Mercy, we believe in a future where every African village thrives, with access to the fundamental necessities for a healthy and dignified life. The Problem: Water Scarcity: Millions of Africans lack access to safe drinking water. Women and children spend countless hours each day searching for water, often contaminated with harmful bacteria and parasites. Food Insecurity: Due to water scarcity and lack of proper agricultural techniques, food insecurity is widespread. This leads to malnutrition, particularly among children, hindering their development and future potential. Poverty: Water scarcity and food insecurity trap families in a cycle of poverty. Unable to grow their own food or earn a steady income, they are forced to live in precarious conditions. We are committed to providing sustainable solutions that address both water and food needs. Water4Mercy's work has transformed the lives of thousands of people across Africa. We have: Provided clean water to over 30,000 people. Increased food production by 50% in participating villages. Empowered communities to become self-sufficient and break the cycle of poverty. You can be a part of the solution. Donate, volunteer, or spread the word about Water 4 Mercy's mission. Together, we can build a brighter future for Africa, where every child has access to the water and food they need to thrive. #africa #water #sustainability #help
