Reflections on My First Week as an Occupational Therapy Intern
I am excited to share that I have just completed my first week as an Occupational Therapy (OT) intern, and what a week it has been!
In just a short span of time, I have had the privilege to meet and interact with a diverse group of individuals—children, teachers, helpers, and caregivers. Each encounter has offered me invaluable insights and learning experiences that are shaping my journey in this field.
As an OT intern, I am quickly learning the importance of patience. Working with children requires understanding their unique needs and behaviors, especially when dealing with their moodiness and fluctuating attention levels. It's a delicate balance of providing structure while also allowing for flexibility and spontaneity in our activities.
One of the key aspects of my role involves engaging with children in playful activities designed to enhance their developmental milestones. Many of the children I work with experience delayed milestones, and it is our job to create an environment that supports their growth. From working on attention levels to managing hyperactivity, each activity is crafted to be both enjoyable and therapeutic.
Playing games and conducting playful activities are not just fun for the kids, but they also serve a crucial role in their development. Through these activities, we aim to improve their motor skills, social interactions, and overall well-being. It's incredibly rewarding to see the progress, no matter how small, and to know that our efforts are making a difference in their lives.
As I look forward to the coming weeks, I am eager to continue learning and growing in this field. Each day presents new challenges and opportunities for growth, and I am ready to embrace them all.

2mo"Associates in pre-med." So that's, what, 2 years post high school? Glad she's happy, but this is hardly an indictment on a proper course for medicine.
