🎉 The iOS app store Aptoide launching yesterday (as an invite-only beta) as a game-only distributor. And seems to be a very promising alternative to App Store. Here are 3️⃣ 3 key things to know: - Aptoide combines a freemium model with a rewards structure. For users, this means all the games will be free-to-play, but some will include in-app purchases. How this differs from the App Store is that Aptoide will give “bonuses” to people who regularly spend in-app, something that will work out to be a 5 to 10 percent discount on each purchase. - developers are charged 20% for organic in-app purchases generated by the Aptoide iOS marketplace and a 10% fee in all other cases — for example, when the developer advertises independently and drives downloads of the app. On the Android store, Aptoide charges 25% and 10%, respectively. Apple, on the other hand, charges a 30% fee across the board. - Aptoide is paying developers between $1,000 and $2,000 to launch a game on its IOS platform, the higher amount going to those who include in-app purchases in their software. The company also handles the Core Technology Fee — a cost of 50 euro cents per annual marketplace install — from its cut of in-app purchases. The iOS side of things is in its infancy so clearly a lot can happen down the road - but def. something that should be on everyone's radar, especially for apps with global TAM. https://lnkd.in/dJT9K7FN #appmarketing #appstore #gamedevelopers

A new #app marketplace called AltStore PAL just launched, offering an alternative to the traditional App Store. It's the first alternative app marketplace accessible on iPhones within the European Union. Developed by Riley Testut, this platform aims to give developers more freedom and users more choice. What does this mean for developers? ➜It offers a way to reach EU users without App Store restrictions. This allows independent developers to distribute apps outside of the official App Store. ➜Developers can monetize their apps through Patreon integration and a subscriber cap. ➜Distributing apps through AltStore is free, but there are fees if your app becomes very popular (thanks to EU regulations). Is this the future of app distribution? ➜It's a big step towards more choice for EU users, but it's still early days. ➜It'll be interesting to see how this platform evolves and if Apple reacts. What are your thoughts on alternative app marketplaces? Would this be something you'd consider using as a developer ? https://bit.ly/3Q9yEr3

This is a big shift for Apple. In the EU, iOS 17.4 users can now download "alternative app marketplaces" from their websites, but only after Apple approves them. Once installed and authorized, these marketplaces allow users to access a wide array of apps, including those not adhering to App Store guidelines. This new approach offers a unique blend of Apple's oversight with the freedom to explore a more diverse range of applications. Will this ever spread outside the EU?
