Recently, The Rockefeller Foundation's Food team and several of our grantees and partners met with Dr. Meena Seshamani, Director of Medicare at Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services to discuss learnings from our Food is Medicine (FIM) work, including how we can continue to increase the adoption of interventions like medically tailored meals and produce prescription programs. With approximately 65 million individuals enrolled in Medicare and 15% of beneficiaries having 6 or more chronic illnesses, FIM interventions as a covered benefit under Medicare could help beneficiaries lead healthier lives. Thank you for an insightful conversation and I look forward to working together in the future! Such a powerful session. Insights into how we can continue to make Medicaid an even more powerful force in people's lives, by listening to what enrollees actually need. National Association of Medicaid Directors
A profound, real discussion of their own personal experience and insights on how Medicaid can do more and better by leadership and young adult self-advocate members of the Young Invincibles (Martha Sanchez and Teran Carter of Ohio) and ND4Y Changemaker (Jazmine Wildcat of Wyoming, Manny Coleman of Maryland and Marco Lima of Rhode Island). At the core of what they told us: Medicaid is invaluable; talk to people who use the program to ask what they need; don’t generalize experience; listen. National Association of Medicaid Directors

There are more than 90M men, women, and children who get their care through the Medicaid program nationally… Studies expect 20% (18M people!) will disenroll from Medicaid by next year due to the “redetermination process” currently happening across the country. Another study found that 62% of those that need to renew their Medicaid coverage are not event aware. It’s also not clear to many seniors that have both Medicare and Medicaid that they need to renew their Medicaid coverage as well. This is the health equity challenge of 2023-2024. Our most vulnerable and isolated Medicaid members might be the first ones to lose their coverage even though they need it the most. If this does happen, Heath disparities will only become more severe. Let’s spread the word so everyone impacted learns about the Medicaid Redetermination Process 🗣️🗣️🗣️ #medicaid #redetermination #recertification #coverageforall #enrollment #community #education #disparities

Thank you National Association for Home Care & Hospice for sharing this. Bad actors are making it hard for good actors to provide needed care. Hospice and Home Health are linked together. Many have both hospice and home health attached. Bad data in brings bad policy out. The program integrity measures, while well intentioned, will make it harder (and more expensive) for the good players to operate while the bad actors continue. 89 hospice provider numbers in one building and it wasn't caught? HOW????? Program integrity then brings ADRs, UPICs, and other methods out, which bog down the providers. They then hire SMRCs on take backs only to have the denials and take backs reversed, but the black mark stays with the agencies. Accountability goes both ways. Accountability across MACs and SMRCs would help agencies feel a lot better about "Program Integrity."
Thank you, Beth Van Duyne (TX-24) and Michelle Steel (CA-45) for your leadership on #hospice program integrity during the Ways and Means Committee this week with the Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra! NAHC appreciates your partnership in addressing bad actors while supporting the vast majority of high-quality hospices that provide exceptional care to patients and families!
