Global #sdgs2030 Report 2023 released. "Of 36 targets reviewed in the report, only 2 are on track to be achieved, while progress on eight is deteriorating. Implementation was too slow, and even regressing in some areas like climate action, biodiversity loss and inequality before the pandemic and has now suffered significant setbacks including in poverty eradication, gender equality, education and eliminating hunger." Global Goals Week is a shared commitment to build awareness and accelerate action on the #sustainabledevelopmentgoals. The #unitednations SDGs aim to leave no one behind in achieving a peaceful and prosperous world by 2030. Over 150 partners will collaborate in #globalgoalsweek to identify solutions, generate ideas and create partnerships to solve a wide range of complex global problems from inequality to climate change. Shockingly half of the 140 Sustainable Development targets are behind and more than 30% have experienced no improvement at all since the goals were set in 2015. Despite this, there is enormous potential for accelerated progress if the global community works together utilising all available resources, knowledge and commitment. The Afri-Plastics Challenge aimed to reduce marine plastics in Sub- Saharan African countries by developing and scaling innovative solutions to plastic mismanagement. It involved a public competition that rewarded the best solutions to addressing marine plastic litter in Sub-Saharan Africa in ways that promote gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls. The Caribbean is not just sun, sea and sand. There are pressing issues of climate change and gender inequality to be addressed. Existing inequalities exacerbate the impacts to vulnerable and marginalized communities, including women and girls. Disasters can also increase gender based violence, with increased risk of abuse and exploitation. Women’s voices are often excluded from decision-making processes. Climate policies and strategies do not adequately address their specific concerns.
